No mate that was Eubank 2. Superb how them beats came in after the Big Ben chimes. That was probably his best entrance. Great memories.:good
loved him, but let down when Watson beat him! so it just goes to show a prime fit class boxer can & will beat the Benn's & Tyson's of the sport just as handily as we saw the killers beat others! Watson was great a shame he ended up that way, God Bless him.
Yeah gutted when Watson beat him but the signs were there for Benn in the Reggie Miller fight when it looked like he might run out of steam while trying to bomb his man out. He ended up finding the punches that night but not with Watson. Watson stayed calm and focused under fire and done a good job. Benn changed his ways after that and went on to bigger and better things. He learned from the loss, has he did again after the Eubank loss and had a great career.
The signs were there not from the Miller bout, but from Watson/Lee. After watching that bout, it seemed pretty easily even as a 15 year old to figure who was going to win Benn/Watson; if only I was old enough to advantage of the odds...:|
:huh Watson Lee was a non even apart from Lee briefly being rocked. It was stopped on a cut before it got going.
Watching it, it was sold as Lee still being world class, and Watson was very much on top. Everything he did in that fight indicated he was going to have Benn's number at the time.
Lee was very dangerous, a former world #1 contender, and tall, rangey, switch-hitting southpaw with a dozen Foster/Hearns-esque KOs. Watson was a 22-year-old late substitute. He couldn't miss the right hand and took Don apart. It was incredible.
In truth Lee never looked near the same fighter after the Sibson bout imo.He was woeful against Olajide and the Dewitt fight hinted at him looking as good against Sibbo as he did was partly a stylistic thing. He was inactive a lot after the sibson fight which wouldn't have helped.I wonder what the story out of the ring with him was.He was one of those Americans like Lindell holmes that their was hardly anything said about. I think you guys should watch it again.Lee looked like **** and while Watson was on top, not much had happened. He certainly didn't take Lee apart. agree with at about him being a scary puncher though.I've clips of a number of his KO's and he had as much raw power as anyone at the weight.
Lindell Holmes was a world #1 middleweight contender for about five years and I saw him punch a guy a few feet in the air with an uppercut (Darnell-somebody?)
LOL, Hoko was fun, but I remember looking at him with intrigue in a Bruno bill, and the force of the stare, opened up his right eye brow...
I remember when the Watson - Lee was made...I thought was a bad match for Watson, especially as a sub, but the match was made by Mickey Duff and he didn't make many mistakes when match-making (Stracey-Palomino aside!), Duff was a master of making a match at the optimum time for his fighters.
I know he wasn´t great.......but he is by far my favorite British fighter....and I love watch his fights....
Benn was a raw slugger when he lost to Watson, and he improved after that. BUT I don't think he ever became good enough to beat Watson. Watson proved himself that night - and in every fight after that too.
