Benn take Ward out in the late stages. Ward was beginning to wear out vs Froch, Abraham had his moments against him and he struggled with Bika If he showed those weaknesses against Nigel Benn it would be good night ward.
His bob & weave game wasn't this 'crude'. I think Ward would land less on Benn than he did on Froch. Nigel could bang alright, and would walk right through Ward's punches. To me it's either a close Ward UD or a late, instant classic Benn KO.
Ward is clearly a very good fighter but he is yet to prove he is on Benn's level. Ward likes to come forward and work on the inside and that would be dangerous against a potent puncher like Benn. It would be competitive no doubt but I see Benn overwhelming Ward and stopping him.
Boone? Bika? Aside from that , Watson was world class, and Benn was still fairly green having not been tested. As for nearly being Ko'ed by a feather fisted boxer.. yeah he used to punch himself out, he also took Eubanks flush shots and McClennan, fighters get motivated for different fights, Been would kill Ward, it's pure fantasy to suggest anything else. Even aside from G-Man, he ****ed up Barkley, he beat ( in mosts opinion)a technically brilliant Eubank and If Boone rocked Wards world, then an Oakland forensics team would be sent in to try find what happened to Ward after Benn mauled him.atsch Please give me one fighter Ward faced half as good as Benn, let alone anywhere near his quality, you can't possibly justify your Ward selection when Bika wasn't far off beating him in his hometownlol:
Benn v Ward would be a great match up. And I am not sure Ward could keep Benn off him, the guy had no quit in him.
Benn was highly motivated going into the second Galvano fight. All the talk beforehand was about how angry he was about being pelted with coins following the first fight, and how he would take this out on Galvano. Obviously didn't work out like that. Taking a fighter's worst 3 performances and then comparing them to another fighter's best 3 doesn't prove a point - it completely undermines your argument. If Benn gets a pass for Watson (green), Galvano (unmotivated), Malinga (unprepared), then you can excuse Ward for uneven performances on the way up. The thread is about a Ward-Benn H2H, not comparing resumes, but Kessler, Froch and Abraham are at least "half as good as Benn". Stylewise though, Ward looks very bad for Benn, who had trouble with boxers not on Ward's level. I don't have an issue with picking Benn over Ward due to how unproven the latter is. However, suggesting that Benn would walk through Ward when he didn't walk through anyone of note at 168 is illogical.
A ring rusty headbutted to death Kessler, a midget off the back of a striong of losses, and one of the slowest ever smw's..... Look it's simple, ward is effecient, he looked reasonable against a very sluggish Froch, poor against Bika, Green offered nothing, AA did his usual shell tactics, and his best win is against a pretty rusty Kessler. he has done NOTHING to suggest he could handle someone with genuine speed, power and movement like Benn. Watson andEubank were technically superb, and yes Watson beat Benn, but Benn punched himself out, against Eubank, it was a war that could have gone either way through 12 rounds, but Benn was stopped in 10, their second fight Benn outboxed Eubank showing he improved a lot as a boxer and learned from his mistakes. Benn was an animal, and with the right motivation he would go through hell. The people Benn lost to would all have beaten Ward too. We know Ward has a bad chin, and he hasn't faced anyone fast or technically excellent. Dirrel would have been the most interesting fight for Ward, I don't see that ever happening as Dirrel and Ward seem to be too close on a personal level. What we do know is, Ward doesn't have the power to put any doubt into Benns head, so he walks through his shots, Benns speed and power would overwhelm Ward and his intensity over 12 would be far too much. Ward is a very good fighter in a time of average fighters, no one has seen how he would do against anyone with speed, and most of his game is about utilising his speed over his opponents, against Kessler, Green, Aa andFroch that's a great plan, but against a fast power puncher, he gets savaged.
atsch Iceman you complete and utter ****, STFU. You dont even know what you are going on about. The draw Benn had with Eubank was the two best SMWs finishing even in that fight. Ward hasnt even come close to facing anyone as good as undefeated Eubank. H Wharton was a tough solid world class fighter that I would pick over 34 year old Froch of today. Benns win over McClellan was a very good win also. Ward was lucky not to have lost to Boone and was very fortunate in my opinion to be given that decision, Ward didnt look like a winner at the end of that one. Now we know how Ward complains when someone can rough him up back, just look how Ward complains to the ref about Bika. Benn would show no mercy and destoy Ward for a quick brutal KO, similar to Benns job on Barkley
:deal I would expect a similar tactic from the Froch fight ..He would have to be on the inside and somther Benn's punches ..
The only way I can see Ward winning is if they put a big metal plate in wards buscuit cheen, have the fight in Jokeland with the hatman by the ringside to help the judges add the scorecards..... Get the **** out of here....
This would be a brutal and crude fight with fouls from both guys. A lot really depends in which country its fought. I disagree with the opinion here that Ward has a week chin just because he was dropped as a novice, I've not seen him in much trouble since but there maybe a few question marks with regards to his stamina. Think I'll go with a close, disputed decision win for Ward. He'll be able to land his own accurate shots and smother enough of Benns blows. I'd like to see Ward in a war before I'm comfortable with this pick though.
