I don't know about Zuniga - I also think it would be better if Lorenzo and Zuniga would determine the IBF mandatory instead of giving Lorenzo this position by default.
Seeing as Abraham is nothing but a paper titlist anyway, why doesn't he tell the IBF to **** itself and take the fight with Miranda anyway. A victory over Edison on American soil will bring more money to a Pavlik showdown than a defense in Europe of a meaningless belt.
You have to fight your mandatory every 9 months by he rules of the IBF (unless there is no mandatory, which I would think but the IBF proved otherwise with Lorenzo :-()
Why should Sauerland **** around with the IBF - he needs them to materialize a fight for Povetkin with Wlad...
If you were Sauerland, would you want to toss Povetkin to the wolves like that? I see your point, but in the end, it's going to cost him more money obeying a set of arbitrary wishes, rather than taking the big money in a winnable fight for Abraham that should lead to an even bigger-money clash. That belt holds no value outside of Germany. Everyone is talking a big game about Abraham crossing the continents to become an international star, but the actions in this case suggest a continuing protectionist strategy.
Tom -- I haven't seen much of Lorenzo, but I've seen a lot of Zuniga. Based on what I know about the two fighters I think Zuniga is a much better and more deserving fighter. Do you agree? I also think Abraham/Zuniga is a great fight. Zuniga is double tough, he has a great inside game, good hand speed, his KO ratio is close to 80%, and he puts out 110% in his fights. He hasn't lost since he lost a 9 round war with Pavlik. In addition he threw his name in the hat for June 7th when Duddy was cast aside. Isn't Zuniga really a better opponent to build toward a Pavlik fight than pretty much anybody else? Boo
There's a chance that if Abraham doesn't keep the belt that Pavlik won't fight him and would instead go after the winner of the abandoned IBF belt. He's made noise about wanting to unify the belts. So they might hold value for him.
Of course it would be an all-action fight - though, Miranda fits the bill far more because of him having history with AA. Zuniga is nearly as unknown as Lorenzo is. But still I'm interested in Zuniga's next steps in boxing...
If the fight doesnt happen now and Abraham is forced to do his mandatory now, then I hear the rematch could still very well happen in Sept.
I think Pavlik will fight the most lucrative opponents he can. If Abraham were to defeat Miranda, that would be him. There's no one out there besides him and Winky, belt or no belt.
Not me. For one they are good friends, so I dont know how motivated Miranda would be to 'kill' him. Two it is not an easy fight, and little reward. But nobody else will fight Miranda. It is crazy.
