Used to be a fan, good kid, one of the best skills around, hard worker, but Timbo's lately getting ridiculous. He's unknown in his own country, can't draw flies to ****, a notorious head butter and now is very clearly avoiding Amir Khan for what he says - Timothy you dumb f* - "I've paid my dues, I've done more than anyone at 140. I'm looking for the bigger fish, the bigger fights, the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fights" - and how exactly do you figure Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will sign to a fight that will take millions of $$$ out of their pockets? I don't care what Top Rank promised (ask Nonito Donaire), Manny Pacquiao is not fighting an unknown dangerous guy as long as there are old name fighters out there and then there's the Gary Shaw lawsuit. All Tim Bradley had to do as Gary in a rare positive turn brought Timbo's biggest - and undeserved - payday - is at least to have that one last fight under the man who fed him in an excellent 140lbs unification vs. Amir andthen move to "bigger and better things" although Khan is already bigger than him, generates about 5 times as much. Much ado about nothing, the Bradley-Alexander fight totally f'd up HBO's 2011 schedule giving away money and dates left and right under the complicated deal including Sergio Martinez' (who was forced to take the short money and Dzinziruk as his date and $ was given to Shaw), and it solved nothing at 140. HBO did the right thing kicking Bob Arum's butt out with that BS Cotto-Mayorga, but Ross Greenburg deserves to end up unemployed for creating these money eating monsters like Berto and Bradley. Who the **** do you think you are Timothy? A proper ass whooping, that the bigger and better thing you should get, but for that you have to actually ****ing fight. Just my 2 cents.
Good post. I see Bradley being left out in the cold and fighting in ballrooms. Not as good as Chad Dawson , but equally saleable. The guy used to be pretty humble , but when your best opponent was Junior Witter, then you need to realise the world is not going to come looking for you. Just my thoughts , but if Holt can drop him twice I see a few guys at 140 being able to take him out.
I've previously defended Bradley for not taking the fight on the 23rd due merely to the reality of his contractual situation with Shaw; I thought it was perfectly justified for him, as a still relatively unknown fighter, to not want to take the biggest and riskiest fight of his career without being protected by a promotional contract to fall back on even in the event of a loss. Likewise, it seemed clear to me that Shaw was only interested in getting one last payday, despite the fact that the fight would have taken place well past the expiration of his actual contract with Bradley. I still regard Shaw's lawsuit as pretty much a farce, at least to the extent that he believes he's entitled to the money a Khan fight would have generated (I have no idea if there's any actual evidence of Top Rank tampering, so I can't really speak to those allegations). But Bradley's continued disinterest in fighting Khan at this point can't really be defended with the free agent excuse any longer. He might be completely justified in expecting a Pacquiao fight next year, but he and Dunkin might want to consider whether the damage to his reputation that this move has caused, combined with his obscurity, will make it impossible for him to be seen as a sellable opponent anyway. I'm hesitant to make the Berto comparison so soon, as I think Bradley's resume is miles better. I do however miss the guy who declared that he doesn't care about his 0 and wants to mix it up with everyone at 140.
It was a recycled fight and HBO said no. Mayorga showed a bit more and Cotto a bit less than expected but that's about it. It was not HBO WCB calibre. P4P#2 vs. unbeaten LMW champ Dzinziruk was.
Arum is a Harvard lawyer, you bet he's got everything covered. A beating is what Timbo needs but maybe he realizes the last thing that connects him to these paydays is his unbeaten record so he'll sit out the risky fights waiting for the big one.
