No it’s simple stuff, at 37 Lewis was losing to Vitali before the stoppage on cuts. It’s just basic stuff that at that age you massively slow down and if you know your body well you tend to start thinking about getting out. Usyk is not a career heavyweight. He has a body of work before heavyweight so I won’t begrudge him if he’s calling it at this point. He has achieved his goals which I guess is all that matters to him - the one taking the punches you know.

Having a competitive fight doesn't mean you have to retire. The opponent deserves some credit.

So, on this thread, ugh. I guess it's to be expected -- he knows he's at the end, he's got a family, he's probably got to get his family out of his country for long term safety due to the war, so best move (taking boxing legacy aside) is to just maximize earnings for the fights he has left.

For legacy though, the thing to do would be Dubois, Parker, Kabayel. If he beat all three and retired undefeated, he'd absolutely cement his right to be considered a top 10-15 ATG.

I'm starting to get worried about this Dubois fight though. The fact he blew up a bit after the last fight (seems he's lost it now), something he's never done, the fights he's not taking... I'm worried Usyk is about to suffer an upset.

Usyk is addicted to the game. I doubt he is gonna call it quits after two fights. In a recent interview, where he talked about his PHD, he said he wanted to fight on until he is forty and afterwards become the minister of sports in Ukraine. 2025 won't be the end of his career.

Noooo, never ... He is not ducking parker and kabayel . He is only refusing to fight them even when they are mandatories for a belt and ready to fight him immediately ;-)

Honestly : we need to find nice words whatever the thruth is.

Money ? Lets not joke . A fight at riyadh season against parker would generate way more than against dubois at wembley . But money is for ukraine just a number they never had to earn since they are pumped full with it from supporting states . Usyk has more money he can ever spend.

Its something else : He has a quarantee to win against dubois but could loose against parker since parker instead of dubois was not willing to sign a contract to loose and enter the ring in his scuba gear should usyk struggle .

Whatever money the Ukranian government receives for their war effort has nothing do with how much money is in Usyk's bank account. What a weird statement.

It's a shame if true, and Usyk should not fight on without giving Parker his due, but let's see the money on the table. When Usyk decides to use both hands and stops Dubois is 4 rounds, Warren is going to try anything to get the title back--maybe even use a non-British fighter. Fury is officially retired, and, if he does come back, may be tied up against Joshua. So whose next...Wardley? He may not get past Huni.

Let's see what Frank and the Saudi's come up with. As of now, there has been no offer to turn down.

I don't understand why he doesn't just go to bridger. Beat Lerena for a belt, and there are lucrative, and relatively easy, matches to be had there against Beterbiev and Wilder.

    But that's just me.

Respectfully, the part you may be overlooking is that he wants to have some MMA fights.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Just putting it out there.

He's the first undisputed champion in 24 years, undefeated, coming from a lower weight class, with four defense/unifications at heavy, and 12 total title fights. He's got nothing left to prove.

But Parker would be a good fight and Joe deserves it.

    Dubois and Parker, definitely.

    Kabayel maybe...
I know I'm in a minority on this, but he's a very short-term flash in the pan right now (with one good win and two very mediocre/overhyped ones) and he disappeared into irrelevance for years once before after his previous best win.

Ultimately, would you hang your legacy on someone with Agits history of disappearing when in the strongest position he'd ever been in? I don't know if I would.

Then again... When we're in a transition between era's, it's nigh on impossible to know where the best legacy fights are from the next generation - besides the very obvious ones in Dubois and Parker.

In Usyks position, would you fight Kabayel on a gamble that it might prove good for the legacy - or would you find a better payday?
Easy to say the former, but I bet most people in that position would go for cash.

He's beaten by far the best the division had to offer, twice each - it's hard to argue that.

    But...

In one sense there's always more to prove - it just depends on the perspective.

A lot of guys as we get older the drive isn't so much to prove something new and great so much as to "prove I've still got it"...

Psychologically it's very hard to "go out at the top" - it's an admission that we know it's all downhill from here... And everything in our nature fights back to stop is doing it.

You would be surprized what hidden connections exist , especially when usyk is pushed forward as a national hero for morale boost . See the propaganda show in poland during dubois1 .

And we should not forget : ukraine is one of the most corrupt and cheating countries in the world , that is verified by many sources.

Of course there are goverment connections , its normal and obvious on this level
