Soto would get brutalized... but JMM would put up a crazy fight because of the styles. Jmm is not there to be hit, he does not run like acosta... He will feint, block and counter that ass, stand his ground like he did Katsidis who hits harder. I have JMM-Rios 50/50 Jmm having the experience, good waste movement, good defense and amazing counters to punish rios every mistake, RIos has a great chin, good power in both hands, is not as relentless as Katsidis but does have better defense... It would be a very Pick em fight.... and I slightly favor JMM as both present problems for each other. IMO Rios is tailor made for JMM but the chin and okay defense could make it very interesting... AMAZING and hard fight though for both. RIOS SOTO.... RIOS BY Brutal KO.
Let's nt get carried away now, good win for Rios BUT JMM puts on a clinic right now against Bam-Bam...Soto/Rios is an awesum fight to make in my opinion, for me that's 51-49 goin to Rios, its that close
Thank you. People are definitely getting carried away with Rios. Great, great win though. Absolute thriller while it lasted.
LOL.....even Doc buying into what uneducated boxing fans buy into, "power." Power punchers like Rios always look fantastic against fighters that fight like he does....... This is a mismatch people. Marquez is way above Rios' league. ........I'm saying this with conviction. Marquez is too accurate a counterpuncher. Rios' would'nt have a clue where the multiple shot counters would be coming from that his own offense would shut down. Ref steps in to stop the fight inside of 6 rounds with Rios' face bloodgeoned and disfigured.
Ive been saying that he would beat up Soto... And i really dont think it would be all that hard... Early SOto does ok,but sooner or later Rios breaks him down too strong to tough... IMO Soto had never impressed me all that much at LW,,more like solid top contender than legit world champ. As for Marquez well that could be a possibility.. Since Rios is reaching his prime, and Marquez on the way out... But i still think your jumping the gun... Marquez has maybe lost a step but in his recent fights he showed he is still elite and still a great fighter, and unlesses he gets old over night,he is probably the wrong guy to but Rios in with...See how he does against Crafty, tough chinned but light punching Vasquez... IMO that would be a tougher fight for him than Soto..... Rios and Guerero would have been great,, but if he beats Maidana i dont think hes coming back down.
Ok wait a minute.,. Marquez probably beats him,but no way as easy as you say... Rios brings alot more to the table than katsides who did much better than you say Rios would.... NOt as experienced as Baby bull, but far more dangerous, and Marquez knows that.... Im thinking Rios will get JMMs respect and hes not gonna be so apt to go gunning for the ko (like Diaz).. I)... If not Rios reminds him of that and puts him down sometime during the fight... I think Marquez will have to dig deep, he will school Rios in many rounds ,, But Rios will keep coming, probably drop him and most likely hurt him on more than one or 2 occasions... Marquez wins more rounds lands more punches... But Rios makes it close with big rounds.. 114-112 type decision for Marquez.
If they fight after PAC KTFO JMM in November then it could be an easier fight for Rios but I don't think JMM will opt to fight Rios after earning no less than $5 million dollars in November. JMM will go for a "vacaciones grande" after the PAC fight.
I just dont see a fighter the skill level of Rios troubling a master boxer like Marquez. The Katsidis' and Rios' of the world are tailor made for skilled war veterans like Marquez. These kinds of fighters are what an over the hill Roberto Duran well past his prime used to take to the wood shed. ......and another thing. Rios is being labeled as a fighter that has a granite chin. It might be sturdy, but in each of his last few fights its shown the vulnerability to be cracked. Rios is'nt just walking through punches, he's being stopped in his tracks....... Even today vs Antillon, Rios was shook on numerous occasions by shots that could be seen coming. The repertoire that Marquez unleaches is on a different level that Antillon's, alot of those shots fighters just cant see coming. Listen, not to toot my own horn......when others were fearing for Erik Morales' health, I was one of the few members of this forum who voiced that Morales vs Maidana was not a mismatch......that Morales skillset would give him a chance vs "the puncher" Maidana. .....I've been a boxing fan too long and know how people tend to overrate punchers like Rios, and make them out to be bigger than they truly are.
......btw, I'd pick Soto to win a close decision against Rios. Soto is at least two levels past Rios' skillset. What makes this fight close is that Soto lacks punching power as a 135 lbs. Soto does'nt hit as hard or is as physically strong as Marquez.
I agree with you too about fans overrating punchers..And i also have been a fan for quite along time..... I mentioned in another thread how Rios is being sold short as just a puncher and one dimensional... he does a lot of suttle things in there and he has those nice accurated shots, and throws nice combos.. YOu should know not to underrate his youth and fire ..and takee into consideration Marquez age,,, RIos defense is also underrated,he catches a lot of punches on his gloves arms,elbows.. Hes a much better fighter than Maidana... Rios is a poor mans chavez,...Mark my words he will be at least as good as Jose L Castillo when allll is said and done.. Also although Marquez is a sharp puncher hes not the big banger you make him out to be.. Obviously hes more schooled and accurate than ANtillion and Acosta.. But i think Acosta hits harder for one punch...and Antillionis right there.. Dont you also think Rios is gonna get better? still young and barely stepping it up in competition these last few fights...I also think Garcia is a hell of a trainer and they work good together.
Rios will walk down SOto around the mid to late rounds.. Soto is more experienced adn more selective than Rios..BUt hes outgunned here.. David Diaz was even bullying him,Diaz is strong but he shouldnt have let Diaz in that fight..Soto is ready for the taking..... I think Soto is a little overrated...Vasquez would be a tougher matchup... If soto boxes and uses his experience it will be competetive until the mid rounds...But Rios is too much ko 10... If Soto trys to war Rios will ko him by the mid rounds.
