Not many American fighters can win big fights abroad anymore

Bailey, Would you feel better if Hopkins and Jones picked some bums to thrash away from home when they were prime? Or perhaps 2 fighters the age of 40+? Jones was a safe ass fight for Calzaghe, and Joe knew it... He said it himself.

I give him more credit for Hopkins, good win, despite Hopkins making it a very close fight being 7 years older.

 

I say faded rather than shot because except for the top level Roy beats the others. How can you say Roy is shot just like that. The man wins the HW title, beats the #1 LHW in a close fight, loses to the LHW he just beat by KO, loses to another LHW who went on to beat Tarver, then Tarver beats Johnson to be #1 LHW again and Jones then goes the distance with him. Jones has 3 rebuilding fights beating reasonable level fighters and tries against the new #1 LHW, gets beat, then goes and beats a couple of reasonable level fighters again.
The Erdei arguement is a bit different really and I have sympathy for Erdei as he has beaten good LHWs has arguably the best LHW resume and had Campillo when WBA champ and T Cloud when IBF champ both pull out of fighting him with no known reason, both did it to Erdei at short notice, so Erdei stepped up a division and beat a world champ in the weight above and away.

 

Agreed.Just like Ali did. Hopkins,Jones,Mayweather,etc simply don't fight overseas

 

Hopkins picked on alot of smaller fighters whilst Calzaghe beat many decent SMWs even if you dont know who they were or of there careers. Dont let age fool you Dawson nearly got beat in a close fight by a guy 14 years older and before his defeat you guys raved about it
