Clearly from your post there you consider this fight against someone who isn't a "real" welterweight, so even when Marquez proves all wrong and shows he can compete there and wins you won't feel stupid for downgrading this fight as a real challenge? Also, all this "real" welterweight talk is ridiculous. The only "real" welterweight out there worth fighting is Mosley and ONLY Mosley unless you consider fights with Berto, Clottey or Collazo serious business. If Mayweather didn't fight Marquez, someone else would have. Marquez wants a third fight with Pac and the only way to guarantee it is by moving up and scoring a major win like Pacquiao did against DLH. Hey, didn't DLH get insulted day and night by people like you here for taking on Pacquiao instead of Margarito?. You do notice that if he did fight Margarito and lost to him boxing would hit an all-time low with the "biggest name" being suspended for loaded gloves leaving us with nothing major to discuss. Marquez is looking to guarantee a Pacquiao fight and he sure as hell can't do it beating anyone other than Mayweather at this point. Pacquiao will be coming off three MAJOR wins(DLH, Hatton, Cotto) so nothing less than a win over Mayweather would gain Pac's attention. If Mayweather didn't fight him then he's ducking him and if he did it's pointless. Who else would you rather see Marquez fight in his attempt to move up and secure a fight with Pacquiao? Any fan of Marquez should be glad Mayweather took this fight and is giving him this major shot.
Nonsense. If he didn't need Pacquiao and his legacy is "sealed" he wouldn't be moving up. You know his move up and fight with Mayweather are serious attempts to get Pacquiao in there for a third fight, right? Marquez his self stated he's not done till he fights Pacquiao one last time to prove who the best is.
His legacy is pretty much sealed. A 3rd fight with Pacquiao is only to prove to the fans and especially to Pacquiao that he bested him twice. Marquez is sick like that.
