Solis can be the truth but there's no way he can dominate the division 250lbs+. If he's got speed and accuracy at 253, imagine what is he capable of at 225! Great Cuban footwork, less body weight but more speed in power punches, better punch output, better stamina... When he can't finish the fight with his very well chosen accurate power punches, whether the opponent is a B or C level fighter, he just can't finish the fight inside distance. A B or C level fighter experienced enough not to leave too many openings can hang in there for 10-12 rounds and Solis' offensive and finishing attacks are not as good as his counter-punching skills. But as I've said, he could do a lot better at 225-230 lbs. It's just nature. You can't keep your speed and workrate with too much fat (and muscle) on...
Solis barely squeaked by Alexeev in Athens, and while he is very, very good - there is a reason he was not venturing into super-heavy in amateurs that much.
BTW Alexeev is the next big thing at CW so losing to Solis via 3 points shows just how excellent Alex is. And his power is frightening.
Recent news by arena say that Solis may not fight on the undercard of Gamboa vs.Jiminez on May 17 due to visa problems. But arena is still trying to get it worked out for him. Anyway, Solis will fight in Istanbul on May 30 and is now training in a boxing gym in Cologne which provides the newest perceptions in nutritional science to get Solis into better shape...
So far we have not had a Cuban Heavyweight with success at HVWT, but this kid has beaten his foes impressively, He is too heavy now, and will have to tone up and lose some blubber but he has skill and good power
The old ones would work fine. Stop overeating and try some roadwork. Solis will be a beast if he does get himself into shape. If.
Well, as you can see, the idea of Solis being out of shape is unanimous, I just don't understand why his camp doesn't seem worried about it yet. It seems the idea of him stepping up quickly has been dismissed and he may keep fighting journeymen for now. At least that's what we can understand by his relaxed shape. I think he is carrying around 20lbs of excessive wheight. Losing it will improve his quickness, mobility, athleticism and stamina significantly.
I do like the fact that he's fighting often. This does forgive his shape just a bit. Let the guy keep fighting every couple of months and get a handle on his fitness over the next year, dropping that 20 pounds and being all the more sharp. He obviously has the skills to win a title, no need to rush into it. There is something to be said for the James Toney-fight-every-month scenario. Ply your trade, stay sharp, and get paid for it, rather than just leaving it all in the gym.
Yeah, I find it quite intriguing that he might fight 2 times in May...hopefully, he'll get his US visa in time...
Oner's been doing a lot of scheduling like that, and then a lot of cancelling one of the fights. I doubt he fights both. Gamboa's been scheduled to do this about 4 times now, and has only actually done it once.
I agree. He looks to the best prospect of the lot. Powerful as hell and with an aggressive style with fast punches and a brutal straight right. Can't wait to see him agaisnt someone known to be decent/good. :good I think his gut needs to go, though, as he won't get much benefit from that. If he were to lose 25 pounds of fat, he'd be a ripped machine on his way into battle. Let's hope his people can get him to see the increasing improtance of world class conditioning, now that he is about to enter world class fightting.
Odlanier is a hard worker, soon it will all pay off watch. I cant wait for his US debut, apparently he is getting in better shape, his camp is taking his conditioning more serious !
For Cubans to be in shape generally requires to have Cuban trainer kick their collective asses. They are very easy going and lay down people.
