Actually, the two things have nothing to do with each other.

Niyazymbetov didn't land that many clean effective blows, as he wasn't able to set his feet and put any snap on anything with Mekhontcev harrying him the way he was.

Under this scoring system you're supposed to disregard light taps and slaps even if they technically do touch a legal scoring area.

Red corner is the one who won by a lot in the last round IMO. :good

BJ Flores agrees with what Atlas and I saw, that Mekhontcev absolutely dominated the 2nd and 3rd and ought to have been way up.

Yeah it's clear now. I just don't think that round was wide, it was close, had the Russian ahead myself.

    Barely.

Niyazymbetov was "supposed" to gold, that should be quite obvious.

That should have been a Russian Ukrainian battle. The Kazakh almost stole another one. What the hell is going on?

NBC is showing a highlight package instead of the medal ceremony for the welterweights (which is being streamed on NBCOlympics.com)

Mekhontsev deserved a bigger win. Lovely performance by him. Maybe he gets the Val Barker Trophy now.
