That guy Price fought. I don't like criticising any boxer but there should be serious thought given to witholding his purse. If Maloney couldn't get better British opposition for Price and Jeffries he shouldn't be in the game.

I agree, Saville isn't great by any means, but not a bad type of guy to fight, he generally upsets guys that aren't on their game, and is durable.

Gavin ought to be in with guys like Scott Haywood next time around, looking at Nigel Wright maybe toward the summer.

Frank Maloney should be very proud of himself tonight, I have just watched Jeffries destroy another imported corpse (there must be a law concerning the transportation of dead bodies across international borders) and look very embarrassed in the post fight interview. He now has two olympic medalists who have gone home very disappointed and probably completely demotivated, way to go Frank

People have to remember that promoters aren't in the business for the fans- they are in it to make money. Risk/reward is often overlooked when people complain about how fledgling professionals are being matched; can you imagine how much it would damage the product that promoters are trying to sell (the fighter) if one of the 'olympians' lost a fight or struggled to win against a seasonsed pro right now?

I do agree that some of the opponents being brought over are dire and that they provide no decent lessons, but people need to be realistic as well. As I said, promoters aren't in this business to keep us happy- they want our money!

For a 4th pro fight Steve Saville is a pretty decent opponent...I think that Gavin and Bellew can be fast tracked, Price and Jeffries aren't going anywhere:deal

You can watch better sparring on YouTube than what we were served up tonight... A good example of this is the sesh with Price and Dallas on Griffs Video thread...:yep

I didn't see the card mate so I didn't want to make anything more than "general" post on the subject. I take your point, if they really were THAT bad!!!:good

I know where you are coming from but the greatest money making machine in the game (ODLH) was matched against a 23-2 seasoned pro in his 5th fight...I know that Oscar is an exceptional case but nevertheless the principle stands...to generate cash you have to take the occasional risk and reach for the stars

This is how I would be taking them...

Gavin - Michael Grant/Ted Bami/Lee Cook from the recent Prizefighter. Guys that come to win and have a bit of ability but in Bami and Cooks case a bit past it, and in Grant's not on Gavin's level. Curtis Woodhouse/Steve Williams. Undefeated fighters that again aren't supposed to be on Gavin's level.

Price - Should be fighting guys that know how to fight as a basic requirement. His career has been stop start and he's a heavy so not too ambitious but no pure bums. How about the dude that beat Olabamiwo and lost to Fury...

Jeffries - Needs to step up big time, too many puddings. Peter Haymer/Matthew Barney/Bob Ajisafe. Guys that are not the best around but are regarded on the British scene and then that leads into British title level.

BJS - Young and needs to mature, Warren is doing the right thing for him.

DeGale - Not too bad to be fair. Would like to see him against British ranked fighters.

In general I think they should be looking on British turf for opponents more often. Simply because we know these guys and can trance their form lines.

I'm watching it now and to be honest its like watching a car crash...the opponents lined up for Price and Jeffries make Salita look like Cobra Curry...I honestly would have fancied my chances over a couple of rounds against the pair of them, and i'm way older than you. :deal

The Afro and Euro bums are such poor choices because you are left with more questions than answers. Most of the time you know nothing of them or anybody on their records. So you are thinking...what does that prove? Does it mean he's ready for the next level or not?

Fight British ranked fighters and you know exactly when to step it up. Have faith in the system, its better than guessing and then suddenly throwing them in the deep end, or taking too long and leaving them stale.

Maloney said three British fighters turned down the chance to fight Jeffries. I make that 45 who weren't asked and I believe every one of them would have given him a better test.

ive said this from the beginning of time, and when i mentioned it a while ago,i got slated.
all our olympic heros, from harrison ,khan and the rest get matched to easy to early, putting someone like khan (ex gb international, medelist ect, boxed all over the world, and these world class ams,DO box a lot like pro's,cubans, russians, chinese, ect)in with someone like, say moi,who would of turned pro after 20am fights, novice,is a bit bad really, although i would of put a better fight than them last night, complete of utter shite.
they will learn nothing, and i think the promoters know they are gonna lose there money ,so **** us lot,we will still pay our money to watch, gulluble lot we are.
on a good note, the wife ****ed off to bed early, saying she would rather watch ****ing WWF.(personally,i agreed with her,the main fight,i would of pulled em out after 6 rounds, and if after 12 id have given it a 120 120 draw, utter tosh):deal

I was surprised neither of them had a word to say in the post fight interview..... Ed Robinson was kinda leaning on them to say something and they both missed the chance, perhaps they were too embarrassed.

I know the young lads get some of their purse in tickets and have to sell them to get their money - I wouldn't be able to face my mates for at least two weeks knowing they had paid £40 or so to watch that.

**** it, I'm gonna defend Sky!

Frank, they put a lot of money your way and expect you to put on quality shows - and you are clearly failing to do so. Sort!
