Ok, I will concede I was mistaken about the poll. However, that doesn't change the fact that Calzaghe beats Hopkins today and in his prime.
ok Borracho please answer me this question in all honesty How come more people are picking Hopkins in this poll, while more people picked Calzaghe in the other one?
I'll go with Calz. Hopkins has adapted well to his age, by changing his style. Calz, seems to be trying to be the same old Joe up to a point and his speed and reflexes are'nt quite where they once were. It may sound crazy but Calz. my be further from his prime than Hopkins is because of his frenetic style.
Calzaghe was coming off his best ever performance. I doubt very much that he is far from his prime at all, let alone as far as Hopkins is from his.
Bull****? Wasn't Hopkins high on all p4p lists on this very forum after he beat Tarver? Even after beating smaller Wright. Nor did I praise Taylor, and maybe you didn't either, but you are Canadian afterall. Most did. If you had read any of my posts up to the fight, or any other fight Hopkins have had for the last 3 years, you would have known that I have felt that people overrated his current ability, and it was painted, because Taylor wasn't all that - I just didn't need him to lose first to see it. Therefore I openly said that this was merely a money fight for Calzaghe, and it meant nothing - that was almost a heretic claim. It was even more heretic the further we go back. IE before Calzaghe beat Kessler. I have done the same with RJJ as you. So why are you responding to this, when you are seemingly not one of those people? I fail to see anyone would say that Calzaghe would beat RJJ in his prime - As far as I know most feel that Calzaghe will win this one easily, but there was just a poll, which showed that prime for prime - RJJ is the greatest - that was quite unanimous.
I don't ever recall seeing him box at a high tempo for 3 minutes of every round over 12 rounds. JC does just that which is why I think he would likely always get a points win.
I hear you but a lot of people were saying Calz. was on the downward slope before the Kessler fight even happened. Even during the Kessler fight n his round by round forum, the infamous Blocky, said late in the fight that Calz. was about 70% of his peak. Personally I thought he looked pretty damn good, but I credit his ability to adapt to Kessler more than Calz. being prime.
He doesn't fight three minutes of every round because thats not his style, not because his stamina is bad. Hopkins style is to pick his shots and throw short, accurate punches. And Calzaghe also conserves stamina by not commiting much power to his punches. Don't get me wrong i think Calzaghe has insane stamina, but so does prime Hopkins. I don't even think that is debatable. Hopkins has won many fights on stamina, taking fighters into deep waters and then drowning them out when they get tired
