Prime DLH. He would land far too many left hooks. I do agree with your posts in this thread for the most part though. Maybe some things do change with time!
Quartey lost all his big fights and the best fighter he beat was Espana.Cotto beat Mosley and Judah.Ike was one of my favourite fighters 10 years ago but no way he beats Cotto.
I think Ike takes this one. That jab would just mess cotto all up. Cotto is what like 5'6 or something, I dunno ike would keep him at bay the whole time.
I agree with this post 100%. IMHO Cotto is a much better rounded fighter than Quartey. Many people are simply going off the fact that Quartey would put Cotto to sleep, but how could you honestly predict something like that with such ease? Cotto to me is a much better technically skilled puncher than Vargas ever was. I also feel that Cotto is a more intelligent fighter than Vargas was. Cotto doesn't have very high concussive KO power, he has relied on boxing smarts and technical punching to win just about every fight. Here is my prediction, If Cotto were to fight Quartey and doesn't get stunned or knocked down...Then he'd beat Quartey by effectively out scoring him on the inside.
I think you're underrating Quartey and Vargas. Vargas was very technically sound at his best, as was Quartey. As strong as Cotto is, I don't think he could beat Quartey there.
Cotto is not as big, strong or physical as Vargas was, and that was at 154 when past Quartey's prime. His technical skill didn't bother Ike(neither did guys like DLH or Forrest for that matter), it was his roughing tactics and strength that did so. Ike was known as one of the hardest fighters to outmuscle and imply your gameplan on, so I don't see a more boxing oriented fighter like Cotto getting the better of Ike at 147 where Vargas did against a past prime Ike at 154. Cotto was more technical than Vargas, but what gave Ike trouble with Vargas was not technical skill, and therefore not Cotto's game. Cotto would not be pressing Ike in this fight, I'd say at times he does the pressuring, but mostly he's on the backfoot like he was against Mosley, against a much more effective pressure fighter. I just can't see Cotto winning this one, the styles matchup is too stacked against him. Cotto is no doubt very good, but not that good.
What galactically stupid imbecile said Cotto beats Jose Luis Lopez? Sheesh! If Cotto is having second doubts about fighting a slower, less skilled fighter in Margarito, he would truly run away from J.L. Lopez. Lopez was as technically sound as Cotto, if not better. He had DYNAMITE in his fists and his chin was as good or better than Julio Cesar Chavez' chin. His defense was extremely underrated. J.L. Lopez stops Cotto in five or six.
Cotto beating Mosley is HIGHLY debatable. He ran just like DLH did vs Tito yet that is o.k. with PR's. Smells fishy to me. :huh By beating Judah, he beat a pea-brained fighter who is more talk than game. Seems you forgot that Tyzsu destroyed Judah, featherfisted Baldomir beat Judah, then Gayfeather did it. Not too impressive if you ask me. :bart
Well, you're being extreme, but if you wanted to combat him you should've just pointed out how controversial Quartey's losses were. I had him winning both the Oscar and Forrest fights.
He didn't run to the extent De La Hoya did against Trinidad. If you watch carefully, he was still landing the more authoratative punches off the backfoot. Round 11 is a great example. And a win over Judah isn't a great win by any means, but he put more of a beating on Judah than anybody did, including Tszyu (who just stopped him with one punch) and Mayweather. In fact, Cotto dropped fewer rounds to Judah than Mayweather did.
I too think Quartey beat DLH. That loss to Forrest nailed Quartey's will to fight shut. Why keep fighting only to get robbed at his age.
So if we add the condition that Cotto does not get rocked, knocked down, or KO'd in this fight...Do many still then predict a 12 round decision win for Quartey? Would he honestly out box Cotto? If so, by what kind of margin wide or small?
I see no way Cotto can outbox him. Cotto is a good boxer, very good, but just because he's shown off his boxing ability against a faded Shane on the attack and a C level Gomez doesn't make him a great boxer. Quartey outboxed De La Hoya in his prime, and outboxed Forrest when well past his prime. Just a terrible matchup for Cotto considering he won't be outboxing Ike, nor will he be effectively pressuring him.
i was at the theater in msg live for the quartey-forrest fight.... a clear robbery ...Quartey kicked his ass a near shut out.... the entire crowd was yelling BULLSH*T BULLSH*T ...i dunno how it sounded on hbo
