Sky have decided to improve their boxing coverage and have hired YOU as their 'Head of Boxing Scheduling and Programming' :hey. Basically you are Sky's boxing matchmaker and you decide which fights are shown. Currently Sky have got these promoters under contract: Frank Warren Frank Maloney Hayemaker (I'm assuming Sky have signed the whole stable) Matchroom The number of dates available for boxing are obviously finite so you only want the best fights on Sky. All fights have to be approved by you and you can also demand certain fights. You also ask promoters to co-promote more often and put on better undercard fights. So what dream domestic cards do you make? :good
I wouldn't have promoters under contract, for starters. I would make them compete for TV dates. Ban Commonwealth title fights, improve the standard of British title fights - some have been lame lately.
I wouldnt allow a pay per view undercard with 3 Olympians on instead of established fighters thats for certain! Come to think of it I wouldnt allow Promoters to put fighters on PPV unless it was a meaningful fight. I agree with Beeston Brawler who said he wouldnt have promoters signed and would make them compete for tv dates too. Of course have a magazine show (Bunce hour) and not restrict my "experts" to arse licking the Sky fighters, id want an honest show, get rid of Smith, Dave Clarke and bring in Dempsey, Kerr instead. Id get rid of Jim Watt as well, hes slipping on the commentary front these days, not that he was that good anyway. Id bring in Duke McKenzie, just for his ability to tell you when a fighters legs have gone Ok rant over, sorry about that lads!
I would make sure that if viewers pay £15 for a ppv event that they actually get to see the entire card and not save half the bill for the weekend after. When I say a show is supposed to go on til 1pm I will not cut it off at 12.15 plus I would sack twats like Jonny Nelson - no room for racism in tv.
