Just to add a bit to your points I can tell you the amateur boxing programs within high schools today is virtually non-existent (I'm originally from the midwest too). A lot of the amateur boxing scene in the inner city areas was sponsored by the boys and girls clubs and even this is vastly on the decline. Generally from the 12-17 year old range basketball, football, baseball, and soccer in that order dominate male scholastic sports. There is ZERO opportunity for collegiate scholarships through boxing, thus no reason high schools will sponsor it. NCAA boxing apparently was discontinued in 1960. Solution: bring the program back, encourage collegiate boxing scholarships. My 2 cents [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Boxing_Championship[/ame]
