I he flipped back and forth between retirement and coming back about four times. Seems to be a very indecisive guy, to say the least.
Moorer was never a true fighter, as in having the mentality required for such a sport. You can see this from interviews from the very beginning of his career. But he was good enough at it, and there was money to be made, so...
The heavyweight version of Zab Judah. Great , GREAT talent, especially his punching power, all the moves, you name it. Just one small problem... he was weak between his ears, and that's one of the surest ways to waste all of that talent, and he did.
That's the main reason. The other is arrogance. Despite being humbled several times during knockdowns (the mediocre Cooper nearly had him out, twice), he kept believing he was immortal. He became very stubborn in training and that caused him to break with Steward. Kind of a shame, Steward made him what he was, acted as a father and had him living in his house. Apparantly Atlas and him went along well, but even there, he wasn't listening to any of Teddy's advice and we all saw when happened during the 10th round against Foreman as a result of that...... Here is a great picture of "better times", during the early 90's: This content is protected This content is protected
Let's not act as if he were a complete failure. The guy did win the heavyweight championship, and did it in a time when the competition was pretty impressive...........And you can't discredit him too bad for being KOed by George Foreman. I would have loved to have did as poorly as Moorer did in his boxing career. And great photo, thanks.....
light heavyweight champs virgil hill, dennis andries and price charles williams wouldnt fight moorer with a baseball bat back then...thats why moorer decided to tell the light heavy weight division to F off....and move to heavy
