:blood I actually like this fight(berto/ortiz that is), but if welterweight Berto beats a big Jr. Welterweight who's probably on the outside of the top 5 jr welterweights it doesn't really make him deserving of a fight with Pac.
Ortiz may have had a very tough fight with Maidana, but it wasn't a life and death battle. Benn-McClellan for instance was life and death, Ortiz quit in order to stop himself from taking further punishment. Anything I hear about him tends to suggest he is slightly soft. As for Berto this is a good fight for him because since the Mosley postponement he has went nowhere.
Im actually pretty excited for this fight. Both have speed and power and questionable chins so you know its more than likely not going 12 and it should provide alot of action. The thing that worries me is that when Ortiz gets hit he retreats and kind of goes into shock. He cant do that against a guy as fast and strong as Berto. However i can see Berto eating some serious left hands and putting him down. As of now i have to go with Berto in what could be a FOTY contender. Hopefully Berto doesnt clinch after tasting the power. Urango made him think twice. IM sure Ortiz would do the same. Berto TKO8
I agree. I think Ortiz can pull off a decision victory or a late KO. The only weakness with Ortiz is his defense. He gets hit way too much. Also he tends to slow down near the later rounds. Berto is too one dimensional. He hasn't fought any quality opponents.
Ortiz has no heart, it might be competitive for a few rounds but the mentally weak Ortiz will start to retreat once he tastes Berto's power and if Berto hurts him he will swarm him. Berto's more of a warrior who doesn't mind getting hit a few times to deliver his own power shots, on top of that he's quicker than Ortiz. Berto by mid rounds KO, maybe sooner.
I dont think there is any issue with the weight. Berto has said that he could get down to the low 140's and reports are that Ortiz is struggling to make weight. I think in terms of weight it'll be pretty even. Ortiz has changed since the Maidana loss. More conservative, less exciting. I wonder what happens if he is in a close fight and needs to step it up if he will be willing to or if he will play it safe. We have seen Berti step it up in his one real fight with Collazo. But I like the fight.
Interesting fight. Ortiz certainly has enough power to fight at 47. I can certainly envision him being able to use his boxing ability to land some good shots against Berto whose punch resistance is a bit questionable. I however think the more compelling question is whether Ortiz can handle the combination of speed and power at the higher weight that Berto brings to the table. I suspect that he won't be able to..
Berto will be too strong for Victor, expect a few slippery moments along the way though. Berto ain't half the fighter people make him out to be.
what weight is this supposed to be at? welter? berto's a pretty solid welterweight. i wonder how victor will handle the weight increase.
I have to admit something: This is a great fight. You have two guys who both like to stand and trade, who both have fast hands, who both are not the greatest defensively, and who both possess a shaky chin. This has the makings of an all-out phone booth brawl. Lots of punches thrown, and landed, Ortiz has the power to drop anybody with one shot, as does Berto, this, in all reality, is the epitome of a toss-up. Think of a brawl on the scale of Corrales-Castillo, Gatti vs. Ward, Chacon vs. Limon, etc, etc... a true barn burner, a true FIGHT. The outcome will be determined on the basis of who wants it more. Great fight, please make it happen.
