^^.............not to mention not 1 but 2 CURRENT world champions.. Paulie Maliginaggi and Ricardo Torres, who are both undefeated outside of their losses to Cotto
I don't think De La Hoya's intention to knockout Forbes. I think He chose forbes so people could see that he can go a full twelve rounds and look good doing it.(and have a punching bag to show off his skills on the whole time)
Oscar "Fool's Gold" De La Hoya has been conning a lot of people throughout his career. This fight reminded me of the beginning of his career when he was fighting naturally smaller guys who have no power, but are "recognizable" to casual fans. He owed Bob Arum bigtime! Without Arum's brilliant matchmaking, ODLH would have been a contender and maybe a one time champ with a couple of losses.
i didnt go2c this fight(forbes-de la hoya) as much as i dont wnna c dlh/fvfloyd2, ya cant right hoya off...maybe hoya-cotto then the winner fights floyd...
Cotto is better now that hype job DLH ever was, at this point he crushed DLH in a 1-sided and severe beating.
First of all, the fight was free. And even if it was ppv, nobody makes you buy it. So no con, that I can see. Oscar is still a top five or six at either Welter or super welter. If he shouldn't be allowed to fight, then most of both divisions (anyone below #6) shouldn't be allowed to fight. If Bernard can fight at 80 % of his prime level and joe can fight at 85 % of his prime and Sugar Shane can fight at 85 % of his prime (not to mention Evander, still plugging away at no more than 75 % of his prime), then Oscar, who is IMO between 85 and 90% of his prime can still box. Prime Oscar KO's Cotto without much difficulty. Before Saturday night, I would have said he still could. but Oscar did not look sharp that night and I now believe he would have his hands full with Cotto, who is destined to be the next big thing at welter. However, Cotto would still lose to Floyd and possibly even Oscar too. You saw him against an 85 % Shane. I scored it a draw, but I'm ok with the judges decision. Prime shane would have been a different story. When the golden boy is shot and exposed as shot, he will have to retire, as no-one will pay to watch him. But sofar, save for the much larger Hopkins (natural ligtheavy), no-one has come close to dominating him. If he's smart, he won't box past this year. But a lot of these guys don't know when it's time to go, and they end up looking foolish in their older days (Ali, Jones, Holyfield...) Only Big George and Bernard seem to have stopped father time.
Or Hearns, Holmes, Ali, Whitaker (right jab), Quartey, etc.. Actually in Steward's defense, he said Oscar has "one" of the best jabs ever. He was overstating it, though DLH does have a terrific jab, but other things that Manny said were worse, like claiming Oscar looked as good as he did 10 years ago.
