Other all time great heavyweights vs ranked southpaws. How does Wlad rate here?

Ah so you want me to bring up Lewis V Tua then?

Your second statement was highlighted just for the ****** value of it. Yes Byrd beat Holyfield, which was about as meaningful as Berbick beating Ali. If that's the best you can come up with then you're ****ed.

What an honor, so he beats Chris Bryd and Iggy, now he's an ATG. Ike destroyed Bryd, even more so than Wlad did. You asked an extremely hard question, considering there are very few good southpaws, I would like to hear you name a few that were'nt already named, thats hear them?

    Well Reg and Punisher,

Off the top of my head, I say Ibragimov, Moorer, Byrd, Harrison, Chagaev, Mildenberger, Cooney ( was a converted southpaw ), C. Sanders, J.C. Gomez, Tony Thompson. That is ten, and as you see, I did not have to go to far back to name them.

I am not making a southpaw top ten lists here. I am asking those who think beating a ranked one is easy and dislike Wlad to come up with better examples!

My point here is two fold.

1 ) Arm chair critics when cross examined often fold like chairs.

2 ) Wlad has done better than just about any other heavyweight vs Ranked Southpaws.

Tua is not a south paw. My point was Byrd was, and he beat two good guys in Holyfield and Tua who Ko'd Morrer. My second point was two wins over Bryd, and a win over Ibragimov is better than one win over Morrer.

As for The Holyfield that Bryd beat, he wasn't that far off from his last fight with Lewis.

No a Wlad hater..jsut a realist. the bottom line that any diehard FIGHT fan knows is that this fight SHOUDL HAVE ENDED IN A KO..and i thought Iggy was going to win. Look...he left his bullets in his pistol, and that does not a great gunfighter make. Let me turn that question on you. Name me another HW Champ taht looked as bad against a southpaw as Wlad did last night. Also, in your question..why is it relevant that we only name southpaw HW's? Plenty of good fighters in other divisions looked good against suthpaws.......

Bottom line.....Wlad had opportunities to shine...and failed to take them....we would call other fighters "shot" who did this, but we, as knowledgable fans...understand that based on Wlads prior performances, he has a lot of tools (and, granted, weakness)...which is why we as fans are so dissappointed in his performance last night. You need to take the chance..the risk..to be great.

I agree the fight was boring, unless your into ring generalship, defense and jabbing. Wlad was robbed of a knockdown though, and did hit Ibragimov solid a few times.

It is not easy to look good vs a southpaw, especially if they want to fight defensively. It has to do with angles, and orthodox technique on deliver of punches, which is a separate thread.

As for name me another champ who looked bad vs a southpaw, Muhamed Ali in 1966 ( Ali's prime ) had a tough time with a southpaw named Karl Midenberger. And beleive me, Mildenberger is not as good as Ibragimov. Mildenberger landed plenty on Ali, won some rounds, and forced Ali to switch styles.

My point here is 1 ) Wlad probably has the beaten the best ranked southpaws, and 2 ) they are not easy to look good against.

Mendoza, the criticism isn't about how easy it is to beat a southpaw, top 10 or otherwise. First off, not all top 10 fighters are created equal, much less top 10 southpaws. This is neither here nor there.

The criticism being leveled is that Klitscho didn't perform as well as he could based on what was happening inside the ring. Ibragimov was there to be hit by more than just his jab. As a matter of fact, he was more open to the right hand than the jab, but for some reason Wladimir was reluctant to throw it. Even his trainer was looking for answers to this between rounds. He looked tentative and wary of the left hook, so much so, that anytime it was thrown he shelled up, when he could have easily countered. Sometimes, he even made the movement to counter it (sidestep or step back out of range) and even cocked his right hand, but didn't let it go.

If anything, if you are going to make this about southpaws, he would have beaten him easier based on the orthodox gameplan against southpaws, which is lead rights. I fail to see how the history of Klitscho against southpaws has any relevance in explaining what happened last night in the ring. Yes they are harder to hit sometimes, especially when fighting defensively. But when Ibragimov DID open up, Klitscho didn't do anything to counter when he could have easily. This was frustrating, to fans and to his trainer.

There is no question in anyone's mind that Klitscho won, won easily, and was dominant by definition. The criticism comes from his reluctance to do more than he did. The retort is "why should he have to"....my response is, that he doesn't. But what I saw in the ring was not someone who didn't want to do more because he was winning easily, but someone who didn't do more because he was wary of the response from the other fighter. As a matter of fact, you cannot claim that Wlad was only using the jab because he didn't feel he needed to do more, because he DID go for the KO in the end when Steward told him this fight should never have gone 12 rounds.

Exactly what I have been saying for the last couple hours, it just doesnt sink in for some of these Wlad nuthuggers, the man is a great talent, but how can you be considered a dominant Heavyweight, when your afraid to take a punch and now even throw one, for fear of being countered. Sorry, but this is not the type of Heavyweight I want to root for, I like my Heavyweights with heart and toughness, for a top Heavyweight, Wlad just dont have it.

Didn't Ali say the art of boxing is to hit and not get hit? I think so. Others have said the same thing.

I see you can't name other heavies who did better vs ranked southpaws.

You might as well just say you're right, and chalk this fight up as an easy win vs a not so easy to look good agaisnt type of opponent.

Good refernece..althought wasnt that a 15 rounder, and Ali Koed him late in that fight? How is Ali adapting his style, amking the adjustment, and koing the opponent, going for the victory and throwing punches..taking chances to be great...worse than last nights fight? Plus, It was Ali's 25th or 26th figth, not 53rd......that guy has like 62 fights in his career, and has 49 wins/ 2 losses when he fought ali.... fair to say was equally as talented than Iggy,

First off, Ali took punishment to land his punches, unlike Wlad who balls up when faced with the danger of actually traded punches with his oppenent for fear of getting hit.

Thats fine I will name a couple great fighters that dominated good left handed fighters, Foreman destroyed cooney in 88-89, Harrison was knocked out cold by Sprott, Ibeabuchi knocked out Bryd in the 5th round, Rahman also layed out Sanders. I hope thats good enough for you, because I really cant come up with anymore off hand.

It was stated before 'Damato had Tyson, but that is not the point. Wlad can hit, not get hit and blast anyone who dares to take chances vs him. Walds size, power, hand speed and accuracy are very good. There is a reason other fighters can't do much vs him.

When you have all of these abilites, you can win a fight with a jab alone, or kncok a guy out withotu even throwing a right hand.

Back to my thread, has any other great heavyweight beaten better southpaws???
