Definitely an awful stoppage. Though Ward would have stopped him later on. Kov was absolutely spent and done. But it doesn't change the fact that Weeks was incompetent forsure, which is odd since most considered him a good referee. They loved him when Maidana was allowed to foul PBF all day.

Weeks was never a good referee, he always protected the hometown fighter maybe except for the Floyd - Maidana fight. Just like when he deducted a point from Fury after a foul but didn't punish Wlad after a headbutt that he obviously saw. A good and unbiased referee is like Steve Smoger for example. Smoger doesn't get any big fights anymore, guess why... Yet Week does and Adalaide Byrd can be a judge.
Fighters recover from getting stunned all the time. Juan Manuel Marquez was stunned and hurt pretty badly in round 5 of fight 4 vs Pacquiao, round 6, Marquez had recovered from that onslaught about midway through the round and at rounds closing, lights out!!!
The reason I disagree with this is because they were body shots though later on being borderline low blows. If he was taking punishment to the head at the end I'd accept it. But body shots only? No. The stoppage was far too premature for me. I think it was absolutely awful. Kovalev was absolutely done though and maybe I just wanted to enjoy watching Ward beat on the racist more.
