Do you agree with this ranking? I was watching MMA live last night and one of the commentator i think it was jorge rivera put jones @ # 2 because he said gsp hasn't fought in a year. And that jones has defeated 3 champions in the past year. Shogun-Machida and Evans.
yep but i think gsp should be back this year and if he dominates carlos condit like expected then he should be back @ # 2.
oh i voted no just because gsp has been dominating his weight class for so long. Bones is a beast no doubt but he hasn't been a champion long enough for me to put him infront of gsp.
Id actually go GSP Jones Silva, purely based on strength in depth in each division as all champs have been dominant
GSP has been more dominant no doubt but that TKO loss to serra will always haunt him. If it wasn't for that fight, gsp would be # 1.
Well if you can dismiss the Chonan loss for Andy then GSP's domination of Serra in the return match has to count for something right
I think Bones has a legit case for being #1. His career achievements obviously don't stack up to Anderson's. But on recent form, and in the "who is the most dominant fighter in their division" stakes, Bones is on fire. In the last 2 years, Jones' results have been: * Dominant TKO1 over Vladimir Matyushenko (24-4) * Dominant 2nd round choke of undefeated contender Ryan Bader (12-0) * TKO3 over champion and ATG Shogun Rua (19-4) (This fight was pretty much the beatdown of the year) * Dominant 4th round choke of faded former champion Rampage (32-8 ) * Dominant 2nd round choke of former champion Lyoto Machida (17-2) * Easy 5 round decision over former champion Rashad Evans (17-1-1) Over the same 2 year period Anderson's results have been: * Thrilling submission of Chael Sonnen (25-10-1) in the 24th minute, just in time to avoid a 5 rounds to 0 loss on all scorecards * Brilliant first-round front kick TKO of former champion Vitor Belfort (19-8 ) * Avenged 2006 defeat by Yushin Okami (26-5) by way of comfortable 2nd round KO. :hat
So while Anderson has certainly had the greater career overall, in recent times he has really been put in the shade by Jones. Jones has fought much more often and beaten a clearly higher class of opponent than Anderson has, and in a more frightening way as well. Anderson hasn't really done anything wrong, but in the last 2 years Jones has come from nowhere and utterly obliterated a stacked division. :conf I rank the p4p top 3 as: 1) Bones (Based on recent form/resume and perceived likelihood of anyone beating him in the forseeable future) 2) Anderson 3) GSP* (with an asterix based on inactivity. At the moment I pretty much consider GSP as inactive. When he has a fight booked, assuming that nothing huge has changed in the sport he will re-enter at #3) I rank the three of them career-ATG wise as follows: 1) Anderson 2) GSP 3) Bones :hat
Jones hasn't been champion for long, but his championship resume is ridiculous. He took the belt from an ATG with legendary ease, and he has defended it 3 times against 3 former champions. None of those 4 guys lost in a way that opens the door to a rematch. Now the only LHW people see as any kind of challenge for him is another former champion and ATG, but one who is 41 year old who is half the size of Jones. Jones may only have been champion for 15 months, scaredas but look at what he has done in that time. Most champions don't hand out as many dominant beatdowns over top opposition in their entire careers, let alone in the first 18 months after they burst into the main event of the PPV. :good :hat
