The mandatories are exactly for the reason. On paper you can beat anybody. If that would be the case then Jones Jr would be still Ring champion without fighting Tarver and Johnson. And where is Johnson and Tarver now? ... behind Cloud, Diaconu or Pascal, not mention that Erdei moved up and won belt at CW? Erdei >> Dawson right now.
Erdei??? This guy is nothing. Dawson's resume shits all over his.:deal Dawson beats the crap outta Erdei at 175.
yeah, Dawson beats crap of everybody .. on paper, so lest pronounce him the god of boxing and let him rematch Tarver and Johnson a few more times and then he can get a shot at Jones Jr for the Ring title
The definition of p4p does not mean above a certain weight limit. Okay, maybe RJJ does not beat Wlad at this stage in his career. But Hopkins, Paul Williams, Chad Dawson, and even Sergio Martinez are more athletic and versatile than the one dimensional, robotic, jab plodding Klits. If you make these fighters above 147 as you claim, the same size, Klits lose to all 4. So the Klits are somewhere at the bottom of my p4p list above 147. There on the list, but definetely not number 1.
Thats your point of view and you may be right since all the p4p rankings are purely hypothetical until they actually fight in the ring. The one point is that the reason why Wlad looks robotic is because he is almost 7 feet tall. If you take Hopkins and add one more feet and 60 lb to him he may be no better than Valuev, and we don't know if anyone from them (especially Dawson) would take punch from real HW. If you shorten Wlad on the other hand he will get more fluid and speed while his athleticism is almost perfect for a man of his size. He would be just more fit and athletic if he was the size of Hopkins, while he would have more power than Bernard and his skills are not that bad at all. Wlad weakness is his chin and conditioning which should significantly improve with smaller size and weaker power of his opponents at lower weight classes.
you meant king sized and still made mistakes , but , still raised a good question , so : 1. tua 2. mccall 3. adamek 3. abraham 4. wright 5. williams 6. dawson 7. martinez 8. povetkin 9. danny green 10. erdei (sorry , but his latest win really means something p4p) maybe chambers should have been there instead of someone , i tried to order it in a proper way , but the ordering might be not exactly true.
you are true about his mistake but wrong about your mistake. hopkins ? one of the all time foulists who also manages to either : 1. fight smaller fighters (wright , trinidad , delahoya , pavlik* , dennis milton , simon brown , john david jackson ) 2. fight drained/shot fighter (tarver) 3. lose (clinton mitchell , roy jones , taylor) 4. cheat (wright , dennis milton , and many more) 5. some combination of some of the above (wright , milton)
Williams fights boxers who are 7-8 inches shorter than him and sometimes loses to them. I don't know what this guy is doing in the The Ring TOP10 P4P after the Martinez fight. at those praising him for not fighting tall. Fighting tall is a skill which he unfortunately does not possess.
Your right on some of your points here on Wlads size. But, I prefer athleticism and technicians. Wlad we could say, on a smaller scale could have more of both, but fact is he is a huge man and is limited because of that. I do give them there due for being great competitors and always maintaining tip top shape.
There is always another excuse to fill a win or loss on someones record. But fact is, Hopkins has had some impressive wins against Tarver and Pavlik, and has been super competitive in and out of his own weight class. Thats why he is on every credible p4p list.
You're wrong dude, the mere includance of Hopkins in the top 5 immediately questions the 'credibility' of the p4p list in question. The man is not P4P. What would happen to manny or floyd if they took losses like Hops did against Taylor and Calzaghe and then only beat fighters they made move up in weight? If Hops is "truly" still P4P then why isn't he fighting Dawson????
Why didn't Hopkins fight Winky or Pavlik at 160? Why did he leapfrog 168 to fight tarver? Truth be told, Hopkins made Winky, Pavlik, Ornelas , Calzaghe, Oscar, Tito all move up weight divisions to fight him. He reigned over the middleweights worst era and then left when it got some talent Taylor, Winky and Pavlik. Go figure. He is also 3-3 in his last 6 fights not including the circus fight against Ornelas.
