Hopkins may fight whoever he wants, his priorities are rematch with Jones and belt at CW, Dawson is the one who runs from options no more Tarver or Johnson fights, Jones is gone, Hopkins is not willing to fight him ....finally he must face a single mandatory ... or more probably he will move up to CW or down to fight Bute?
The reason why Hopkins has not been dropped from the list yet, is because the losses to Calzaghe and Taylor were very competitive. Some even believe Hopkins won those fights. It's all circumstantial; Marquez lost by blowout to Mayweather , but still remains on the list. If Marquez would have lost to say Diaz, and Casamayor, gauranteed he falls off the list. I agree, he should fight Dawson.
Marquez moved up 2 weight divisions and lost, Hopkins lost in his own division twice and then in his "new" division to a smaller man. Bad analogy. What would happen if Manny had lost twice to JMM at 135, then moved up to WW, called Hatton to WW and lost to him. Virtually the same scenario. But was competitive in all. He would still have 3 losses at his weight, would he still be in the top 5? No ****ing way
Its the manner and circumstances in how you lose. Again, like many others, I had Hopkins winning Taylor twice, and losing a very narrow decision to Calzaghe.
I personally feel it takes more than one good fight to make it onto a p4p list. Ward beat Kessler but has done little else. Froch on the other hand has beaten Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell over the course of the last year. More of a case could be made for Martinez but at the end of the day officially he lost his last fight.
