Explain to me what makes an A+ fighter to you. For me, an A+ fighter has no discernable weaknesses. They can fight on both the inside and the outside, they have a good jab, they work the body, they can throw any punch effectively, they're effective with both hands, they have a good chin, good defense, they make good in ring adjustments. Basically, an A+ fighter is the total package. A+ fighters do not come around very often. The main reasons I don't consider Shane to be an A+ fighter is because of his lack of an effective jab, his suspect defense, and his inability to make proper in ring adjustments. This guy was dominated twice while in his prime. That just doesn't happen to A+ fighters. Shane was an A level fighter at one time in his career. However, he had too many discernable weaknesses to be considered A+ talent.
Please stop using boxrec to make your arguments. LMAO @ "look at the records...". The hell with that, I remember the fights and the fighters. I don't need boxrec.com to know that Jose Louis Castillo was better than someone like Phillip N'dou. But...I guess if you only look at boxrec you might assume N'dou was better because he was younger and had a better record. LOL. To even suggest that Cotto is ahead of (or near) Mayweather in regards to ATG status and/or accomplishments is asinine. Mayweather beat "the man" at 130, 135, 140 (Hatton didn't fight him at 140), 147, and one of the best 154 pounders. Cotto, on the otherhand, has yet to beat or even be considered "the man" at either of the weight divisions which he competed at (140 & 147).
Floyd is a top 3 fighter all time at 130, he has a pretty strong resmue there. Floyd beat Hernardez, Chavez, and a dismantled a prime Corrales. At 135 his resmue is not as impressive, top 30 maybe. Only fought I think 4 or 5 title fights there. Struggled to beat a peak Castillo the first time then won the rematch clearly, then went on to dismantle N'Dou. At 140 he is clearly weak, probally not even top 50. He destroyed Bruselles and a fading Gatti. Gatti was probally a B- or C+ level fighter at the time, and Bruselles was C+ level. At 147 he is starting to make a name for himself, possibly top 30 and has time to move up. He beat Judah clearly on points and might have stopped him if Judah did not go low. Then he goes on to fight Tata and win every single round to become the linear champion. Finally in his most impressive victory at this weight moves back down from 154 to stop Hatton with a great counter left hook. The Cotto fight would do wonders for him here. At 154 you can't rank him because he only fought an older but still good DLH. Floyd beat him clearly but had a little trouble early as he tends to in some fights. On film he ranks very highly. As a head to head fighter I might put him in the top 30 all time already. #33 all time for me when I take into consideration his actual resmue to the way he looks on film.
I think the reason he he gets a lot of credit for 140 is because he was dodged by the two other top fighters at 140, and he later beat the top 140lber. AND, the fact that he could never face Zoo.
As usual when it comes to PBF I think SOME people findin it hard to seperate feelings for floyd the person from floyd the boxer. Anyway my 2 cents 1. Reckon about just outside top 30 all time p4p right now. Can't say exactly with out writing it all down and can't be bothered right now. Could move up considerably if ever cleans out divison 2. skills-wise (which i think was the original question!) top 10 all time. Speed, defense, accuracy, ring smarts, ability to string combos together all top notch. Only flaw is not a particularly concussive puncher (least at welter). I rate him current p4p king, winner pac/JMM maybe eclipsing him. I am by no means a PBF hater, hell I even consider myself a fan, but like all real boxing fans am so frustrated by him looking for money over legacy and taking a year off to wrestle dudes in tights. If he showed that true warrior spirit, unified welter div then took a couple more big fights could rightly claim to be an ATG
He get virtually no credit for 140. It it the weakest part of his resmue. Sure Hatton did duck him there and face him at 147 but that strengthens his welterweight resmue, not his 140 resmue.
floyd no doubt will be remembered as a safety first kinda guy.his whole career he has managed to stay away from the ring battles and maintain that perfect record. a record is pretty to look at , but now when you have got such a hungry division ready to get a piece of him you have to wonder why he won't take the fights .from 135 down i was a huge fan, but he has lost his intensity.he stays in tremendous shape and is a superb athlete but i think even he knows that in this stage and weight of his career if he takes the big fights one of these guys are going to catch up to him.
