i agree the title is in poor taste but i doubt he meant it like that probably more along the lines of 'boxers who shat themselves in the ring' or something...
:-( When he has never fought the other number 1/2 ? So what if its his brother. Lewis far more dominant.
so what ? am i saying he was a coward per se, and displayed cowardice in all his fights and throughout his life ? NO, I have explicitly explained that I'm not saying that. I've already said that cowardice is a human trait that we all show at times, and there is no need to have a fit of indignation every time someone mentions cowardice. Seldon's performance in the Tyson fight was a cowardly one. That's about as good as a FACTUAL statement that you will find on the fight. It's concise, and to the point, and ACCURATE. It's not really up for dispute. And, no, I don't have to have fought Tony freakin' Tucker to say that. You're being ridiculous.
I seem to remember Seldon himself admitting at some point that he felt the power and decided "forget this!"
Nothing hit Seldon behind the ear. The replays from both angles clearly show a missed punch. At most Tyson's forearm brushed part of his head, seldon was probably already deciding to fall over at that point. The second KD a grazing punch landed, but doubtful it had much power. Again Seldon was already backing up with the intention of falling over. And Seldon is up and clear-eyed and taking the 8-count when he suddenly shakes his head and fakes a fit of the jelly legs. I didn't even think it was good acting ...
Yeah, I agree ultimately men who step through the ropes deserve respect, though Seldon against Tyson for instance was the antithesis of the 'fighting spirit'.
Dont like the ideal of calling any one a coward boxer or not and just because a person is NOT a boxer does not make em a coward. The average man has turn into a hero from time to time when some of the post that I seen here. 9-11? When the passagers took down the plane? Or the plane crash in the 1980's were a over weight man saved as many as he can before he drown in the icy cold water. Any one can be a hero, you dont need to be a boxer to be one. I put more effort too braverly for war, or risking lives for others than steping in the ring.
No-one who enters the ring deserves to be called a coward. I still get butterflies reliving the experience of walking to the ring for an amateur bout in my mind. It's an exciting yet daunting feeling no-one can describe and you won't have a grasp of unless you do it personally.
