Having watched footage of a couple of Jarrod's poorer recent outings i dont blame Bryant's camp preferring him over Talipeau. Fletcher's level of competition is so far inferior in the pro ranks compared to Talipeau's at this moment.
I have not dodged anyone here in australia.. I will fight anyone... I think its time to look elsewhere... These people around me are just full of promises.
I recieved this email this afternoon From Brad, He asked me to put it on here for you to read Junior as he isnt a member of Eastside. Ive had to split it into 2 threads as it is to long Junior, it's a shame you decided to air your grievances in a public forum as to what you believe is your title, and your right to fight for this Vacant PABA Middleweight title, So since you decided to publicly tell everyone your reasons how and why you were supposedly dudded out of this fight. I am now taking the opportunity to tell you and everyone else publicly, the "real reasons" why you are not in one corner, come March 12th. Late last year, I received a call from Billy Hussein, asking me if Garth Wood can fight for the Vacant PABA Middleweight title, he said he will get Garth's manager, who now is also your Manager to call me. Billy told me how Garth is really going places and will fight anyone, and he desperately wants this title. So I eventually spoke with the manager a few times, and even though Wood had only 8 or 9 fights, with no amateur background, I went out of my way to get him approved for the PABA title, I try hard to get all our Aussie fighter's title shots when theyre available, otherwise we lose them to other countries, then it's hard and costly to get them to defend the title down here, and our guys can miss vital career opportunities. So, I got it approved and everything was kosher, until your manager was told by the grubby little manager of another leading fighter, not to allow Wood to fight for the PABA title. So that was ok, We do not know his reasons for vetoing Garth's title fight, and we don't care. I then received an email saying Wood was injured and could not fight on that date, but I was asked not to say anything to anyone. So i called and emailed your manager a few times innocently seeking to know whether they wanted to cancel altogether, or just put it back to another date. It didn't bother me whether he didn't want the fight anymore, but he never had the courtesy to reply to my email or phone call, sad part was, the supposed injury to Wood, was false anyway, and everyone knew it. Then some 3 or 4 weeks later, I get an email from the PABA office in Seoul, asking me to contact this manager, because he'd emailed them for the second time asking for approval for you to fight Iau Kamisak of New Caledonia for the vacant title now that Wood had withdrawn. The PABA head office do not have time to deal with Manager's, Promoter's or Trainer's etc, so they asked him to contact me, but he again deliberately sent them another email, So they sent both copies to me and said to deal with it, after-all, it's my allocated region and i take care of all title challenges and applications etc, they were not impressed that he tried to go through the back door. But in the meantime, I'd been contacted by the Management of Robbie Bryant in Perth, who were also wanting to fight for the vacant Middleweight title, I told them what to do, and through me, they made an application to the PABA office and were immediately approved. So now Bryant was approved to be in one corner, and I then told them to search for a suitable opponent. I was at Melbourne airport, when I received another telephone call from your then trainer Al Sykes, who apologised for the manager's second deliberate email and urged me to get you in the other corner to fight for the title. Al asked me to ignore your manager and deal direct with him, and he would see that everything was done the right way. I know Al, and I think he is a decent bloke, so i eventually agreed and told him to contact Bryant's Management to secure a fight with him, because he was already approved to be in one corner. Bryant's people were more than happy to accept you as a challenger, as I am told, Bryant has wanted to fight you for sometime, they already had a date approved and just needed an opponent. I beleive, your then trainer Al Sykes and Bryant's team agreed to terms, and you were happy to accept the fight, which was then set for March 12 in Perth. I was waiting for a formal application and for the fight contracts etc, as per normal, then approx 2 weeks after all this happened, still no application or contract had come my way. I was then told you had pulled out of the fight because you had better things to do, and you were chasing another entity's title, I also heard you had left Al Sykes, he was no longer your trainer. So your withdrawal, then left Perth Promoter Ty Colman with no fight, basically you just withdrew and were no longer interested in the fight or the title, So he was left with no choice but to find another opponent, he really struggled to find someone suitable when the PABA office knocked back two other contenders who were were put up for consideration, but finally they agreed on Josh Clenshaw, who was adamant he could definitely make Middleweight. So, with Clenshaw's record, his ability and eagerness to contest the title, a formal application was made, and the fight was approved, but it had been made clear Clenshaw was committed to fight Les Piper on Jamie Myer's show prior to fighting Bryant, there was a stipulation that if he lost badly by KO or TKO etc, then the PABA would withdraw approval of the fight. It's history now, and while he was beaten, he was not disgraced, but it was then realised that he had little chance of safely fighting Bryant at Middleweight and was withdrawn from this fight. Now, I can tell you, that you were never ever approved to fight for the Middleweight title, you would definately have been approved if we received an application for the fight, but we never received an application because you withdrew from the fight. You were never rejected to fight for the PABA title, I had asked for an earlier verbal ok from Head office after speaking with Al Sykes, but this was always subject to consideration after a formal application was lodged, but nothing was ever submitted, as you should know everything is always done on paper, not by word of mouth, but with your record, once the application was received, it was just a formality to be approved. So now let's wind forward a few more weeks, We heard nothing at all from you, because you supposedly were doing something else, Clenshaw has withdrawn from the fight with Bryant and the promoter, through Billy Hussein is seeking another opponent. I am told that Billy Hussein approaches you and offers a figure of $5000 or $6000, I stand to be corrected on that, but you reject this and ask for $10.000, they then offer you $7000, but you remain firm on $10.000. I am told Billy then made a final offer to you of $9000 but you still refuse. So at this stage the Promoter decided that your fees are too high, and he asked me what can he do now, I told him to just forget the title and put on a non title fight if Junior's demands are too high, I also told him its hard for Billy, because he is a mate and yet, he is close to Junior's manager who, also manages Garth Wood and Billy Dib, and both are trained by Billy.
So i then contacted the PABA office and told them what was happening, I advised them Bryant's people are negotiating with you to fight Bryant and the amount of money you were requesting exceeded the Promoter's budget, this is why there has been nothing agreed. I told them exactly what had taken place to date and was told, to simply forget this Manager and Mr. Talipeau, go find another suitable opponent, I might add, they did not like the fact that your manager had twice tried to enter through the back door, these people are not stupid. Junior, now remember at this stage, no application had ever been made for you to fight for the title, the first time you withdrew, or this time as well, So maybe you did eventually agree to a deal with Billy and/or anyone else, but no-one told us, no-one asked the PABA for an approval, you went ahead and made a deal without considering who owns this title and/or whether you would be approved, you put the carriage before the horse, So we were never even given a chance to approve or disapprove you. Then I hear from a few sources that your manager is threatening to contact the WBA - PABA to complain about me not allowing you to fight for the title and I have no right to stop you, I do not run the PABA in Australia, and i am not in control of the PABA etc etc, I know where they got their information and i am glad they beleived it, because it was all just garbage. But the real truth is, you pulled out of a fight that was never approved in the first place. Then you come back some weeks later and decided you wanted the fight, but your pay demands are too high and the promoter decided to go with another fighter, end of story, sadly you priced yourself out of the fight and the procedure to secure the title was never met in the first place by the manager you pay to do your work. Let me make it perfectly clear for you you right now, I have NO personal issues with you, I have never met you and don't even know you, So whether you fight for the PABA title or not, i really don't mind, but i do have issues when people like your manager try and make a fool of someone whose only crime was to work hard for him and his fighter in the first place, without ever meeting him or his fighter, and that's the thanks I got. Anyway, so after the PABA office told me to find another opponent, I only made a couple of calls and immediately had two fighters willing to fight Bryant, and accept about half of what your pay demands were. So I told the promoter's partner in Perth, who then contacted the Promoter, who called me from New York and asked me to lock in either fighter to comply with the PABA order, which i did in Jarrod Fletcher, who is a former PABA champion and a worthy challenger for the title. I beleive Fletcher is a hard fight and is capable of defeating Bryant anyway, but Bryant's people were not concerned, they want the fight with either you, Fletcher or the other fighter who also agreed. We then received an application immediately from the Promoter, which I lodged and was immediately approved. I then placed Fletcher's name in the Boxrec schedule, and strangely just a hour or so after it was listed on Boxrec, I get a text from Billy saying you had agreed to $9000 for the Bryant fight. I then SMS Billy back and told him it's too late now, because Fletcher has accepted the fight. I really felt bad for Billy, because he had done a lot of work to make the fight happen, but the general thought was, had you not demanded such a high purse and simply accepted a sensible and reasonable offer in the first place, you would have been in one corner, but it was not to be. I might add, the PABA heavyweight title was to be fought on the same show between Peter Cronje and Evans Quinn, the total combined purses for both fighter's was in the vicinity of $9000, so your purse alone would have allowed the promoter to place that entire Heavyweight title fight for almost just your purse, unfortunately Cronje got injured and had to withdraw, So really you only have yourself to blame for not being in one corner for this fight. Now, It's not for me to say you are not worth $10.000, I beleive a fighter is worth what ever he can get and i encourage it, Fighter's are not in the sport for a long time and I hate the idea of boxer's fighting for tickets etc, you are entitled to be paid whatever you want within reason, but in this case there was a valuable and respected WBA-PABA title on the line, and after all, this is what you were really fighting for, plus it was a 50/50 fight for a quality vacant title. I felt if you really wanted the title, then your pay request was a huge ask for any promoter, and when you ask these sorts of figures, you run the risk of the promoter simply saying No, after-all, who else can and will pay you that figure for a fight anyway. Junior, these are just a few of the reasons why you aren't in this fight, if your manager simply did what every normal manager does, things may have been different. Also if your pay demands were a little more reasonable, you could have easily been in one corner. You need to know, you were never refused to fight for the title, We never received an application to refuse you. So simply you were never approved, in my view, your manager failed you, he never applied for you to fight for the title. So had your manager simply contacted me like he was asked to, and then put in an application for you to fight like every other manager or promoter does, then i am sure it may have been a whole lot different. He may have been Kerry Packer's right hand man for years, but that does not give him the right to come through the back door, and/or to sidestep the normal everyday process which every other trainer, promoter and manager has complied with for as long as i can remember, and i have been in this sport on and off for the best part of 47 years. I write this reply, not to belittle you or anyone else, but just to set the record straight about what actually happened in the lead-up to this title fight, whether you actually know the real truth or not i don't know. Whether Bryant, Fletcher or any other fighter is as good as you, who knows, who cares, but they are in this fight, simply because they did things the correct way, they had a management team willing to comply and, do things in the correct way for their fighter. Finally, I wish you every success in your career, its a shame it came to this, but as i said, you need to look at who is doing what for you before you blame anyone else. I am sure there will be further opportunities for you out there, I just hope you recognise them when they pop up, trust your own judgement, I think you have another terrific trainer as well, so i see no reason why you cannot acheive you goals. Best Regards Brad Vocale
Can't believe all the crap over a **** title. It's only a matter of time Asian Boxing Council will decimate PABA, which lost the plot 5+ years ago It sanctions everything and anything for sake for its survival. No way is Vocale in position to change its policy - ruining bossman Alan Kim's regular income......not to mention his own casual income. How many PABA titlists had defended the title outside OZ??? It took Steve Maxwell all of 8 months to score ABCO defence in Russia & decent payday. Bryant nor Fletcher, like all Aussies, ain't world title material, so what farkin good is a WBA "WORLD" rating?? IMHO, PABA/WBA is an outright CON
BTW Bradley, why ask Ben to post your comment (novel) on the matter? Quite easy to do it yourself........but...... than again it took you 8+ years to figure you were auto able to post in Boxrec forum, being an editor. I guess it takes a year 7 graduate to figure that I must say your spelling has improved since you're days as ANBF pressy, but you need to watch commas when your keyboard runs out of breath & caps after full stops. Also good to see paragraphs with a bit of space between them. I gather you've taken notice of Wheatley's edits in your knock-ups in World of Boxing monthly rag. Letting hot air out of the bottom end usually helps, as it doesn't fog-up the monitor.
The first line of this letter of Mr V's was enough to get me giiggling. Junior, it's a shame you choose to air your grievences in a public forum FFS I'm laughing that hard it'd hard to type! Heard of a pot mate? heard of a kettle mate?
The reality of boxing is 75% of fights are missed not made...shame some people cant understand this :blood
Make that 95% of bouts that are mooted never get made. Opponents fall through at a rate of knots/take better offers/want too much money for what the budget is, won't be acceptable to TV or the potential audience, etc, etc.
Brad's letter (via Ben's post) is certainly interesting, if not entertaining reading. Loved this bit amongst other sections: 'So, I got it approved and everything was kosher, until your manager was told by the grubby little manager of another leading fighter, not to allow Wood to fight for the PABA title. So that was ok, We do not know his reasons for vetoing Garth's title fight, and we don't care'.
I agreed 4-5 days before billy contacted me and said they opted a fight with fletcher.. Saying bryants trainer considered fletcher an easier option.. I didnt know billy didnt call you before and finalised.. I thought the fight was sealed.. Brad i dont know what problem you have with michael k bringing up his past work.. I heard your not even aligned with the paba.. I wonder if the opbf know this? Anyway i wanted this resolved and now ive moved on.. Waiting for the next opponent to jump in the ring with..
Fail to understand why Bradley is hanging **** on Khoder? He only had him removed from one of his/Mundine's shows. Feud had been on for yonks. When Brad had a falling out with PABA, he tried to swing Tony & Anthony into OPBF/WBC route 'cos of possible reffing/judging/supervising $$$. Telling them Alan Kim was a dud & PABA/WBA was a con. Strange how one's attitude changes like Melbourne's weather = 3 times a day
