Pac vs Floyd is a more signifigant fight, and I would love to see that over Pac vs Shane, but Pac vs Shane would be an overall better fight with both fighters showing up to lay it all on the line.
not bad at all. Imagine if there was no question mark to his boxing success, i think it woulda been better.
I live in LA California......every newscast here had mentions of the fight.....thats publicity and awareness to the sport fan that there is a big fight on the weekend. ......and of course, ESPN had personell on hand in Dallas stadium all week leading to the fight......so anyone that was a sport fan and turns to watch ESPN was aware of the fight. ........that awareness does'nt always happen with fights.....it certainly did'nt happen during Pac's fights with MAB, Morales, JMM.....the smaller weight classes just dont get that attention from the media outlets, and it explains why Pac's last fight with JMM only did just above 400K.......it was huge with the hardcore fan, but there was'nt a mention of it that it was coming from media outlets.
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. 700k buys to watch Pac hit the bag. That's basically what it turned out to be. Nobody expected an all out action packed fight. They knew what Clottey was all about, and they still tuned in to catch the fight in large numbers.
Only an idiot would use that argument. Numbers dont lie true, but have you also heard the cliche saying that numbers dont tell the who story? Like someone earlier said, Clottey/Baldomir are of equivalent draw, PBF-Balodmir did 350k, Pac-Clottey did 700k. Of course anyone with a little commensense will know that Floyd wasnt the draw that he was when he fought Baldomir as he is now, just as Pac wasnt the draw he is now when he fought JMM. Both fights with DLH did big numbers, but imagine if DLH fought Pac first, lost to Pac and then fought PBF, do you still think DLH-PBF would have done 2mil+ if DLH(who was the main attraction i both fights) was coming off a loss? Dont think so. Do you think PBF-Clottey now after Clottey bored everyone and is coming off a loss to Pac would do 700k? The fairest comparison is Pac-Hatton vs PBF-Hatton. PBF did slightly better numbers, but then again, Hatton was no longer undefeated and we were in a reccesion...you could say those excuses dont hold but that could have very well been the 100k difference in the 2 bouts.
Exactly! I think PAC vs Shane would do better numbers than Shane vs Floyd even if Shane lost. I guess it will depend on how Shane looks with Floyd...if he wins for sure he'll fight Manny if Floyd doesn't push the rematch clause....if Shane looses in a good competitive fight Shane vs Manny will still be a VERY HOT TICKET based on their styles and willingness to lay it all out. THat fight would be WAR!!! and I bet one of the best fights of the last 10 yrs.
Well then its obvious that it was better promoted on the west coast than on the east. I live in NYC, and there was very little mention of the fight on any newscasts. Of course if u tune in to ESPN there will be mention of the fight. ****, if u tune in to ESPN, you can read about who's boxing in Istanbul. That's not what I would call promotion. The news about it being the first fight in Cowboys stadium was bigger than the fight itself.
The reality is Manny is a not American, white, black or Latino. And he barely speaks English. So his appeal here is purely on his historic achievements. So let us be honest here why Manny will not pull the same numbers as ODLH vs PBF or PBF vs Mosley. It is like asking Texas to watch two California teams in the World Series.
The numbers tell a story of their own. If Floyd only beat him once or twice you possibly have an argument. FLOYD BEAT HIM EVERYTIME, EXCEPT ONCE. How can Manny possibly be as big a draw as Floyd is he is losing everytime ? We can add a bunch of other factors like, Floyd was retired for nearly 2yrs came back, fought a overmatched lightweight and he still did huge numbers. Bottom Line. You can make excuses but the numbers tell a story of their own. More poeople PAY to watch Floyd than pay to watch Manny. NUMBERS DONT LIE.
