Fight was made mid January. February, March. 2 months is not much time to promote. **** undercard, no one knows Clottey, both are from countries other than America. What do you expect :deal
No, it's not. Mayweather didn't reach his current level of notoriety outside of hardcore boxing circles until he fought De La Hoya.
I clearly remember when Floyd was set to fight Marquez, his fanboys were saying that anything over 700k would be a huge success. Now that Pac achieved those numbers with a much lesser known opponent, its not a success according to them! atsch Clottey is from Ghana. He has very little to NO fanbase here. He's not marketable due to his boring/defensive style. There was hardly any promotion for this fight. 700k is astounding given all those facts.
it doesnt matter! None of this matters. The point is, how can someone say pac is a bigger draw when everytime the ppv numbers come out floyd outdoes him ? That makes no sense. Based on numbers alone, floyd is the biggest draw in boxing today
Mayweather Mosley will crush this number but keep in mind: "Sugar Shane" is a name that has been kicking around in the American boxing lexicon for years, regardless of his PPV failure. Floyd Mayweather is a celebrity himself. This fight has two participants, one name that people have been hearing for a while and the other that everyone knows through WWE, talk shows, interviews, etc. Clottey was a non-factor who drew 0 attention. There were tons of people who knew about Pacquiao but refused to buy the Clottey card because they thought it would just be a non-competitive wash. It was, but for a lot of fans it generated intrigue before the fight. Clottey had no name, no fame, a boring style and basically no good wins. It takes two to tango, and 700-750k is a great number considering that Mayweather Marquez had the Mexican fanbase in it and only did 1m.
As far as both thier fights with Hatton and Oscar goes, it would be like Pac whoopin on Clottey, then having Floyd fight Clottey, then when the #'s dont stack up, saying that Pac is the bigger draw because he did more in his fight with Clottey than Floyd. Floyd had the benefit of facing and beating thier common opponents first. That's all.
Pac/Clottey=Floyd/JMM and Pac/Cotto=Floyd/Shane. You have just seen one scenario play out in Floyd favor and you can bet that the other will as well. That will make the question of who's the biggest draw go away. There was neer really any doubt but after May 1 it won't be asked again.
It does matter, because the point they are making is that Manny is a draw from the way he fights, floyd is a draw from the way he talks. :deal
