Because the weight on fight night is the only thing that matters. Whether Pacquiao has been a welter doesn't matter, because he could still make 135lbs. He just chooses not to. He's not a bigger man than Marquez, which is surely the issue?

no, i totally disagree. It goes by what they are at the weight, that is what makes the opponent credible. So this is a credible fight? Is that what you're telling me?
He didn't stop Berto. And even though Ortiz is good, and would have a size advantage over Pacquiao, his defense is fairly weak. He would get pounded.
But my point is, they are the same weight. To me, it doesn't matter what they weigh in at. Their fighting weight is what counts, and that is 145lbs for both men in their last fights. When they step into the ring, they are the same size. That's what counts.
Ok, I'm the light weight champion of the world. I'm going to train in a way so that I weigh 160 on fight night, the weight on fight night is all that matters, so I can fight the 160 champ of the world- ****ing insanity. We have set out weight divisions for a reason and we have for over a century. You earn title shots within your division on merit. JMM is a nobody at welter, and this has actually been proven in his only other fight at the weight. I am not going to debate this, anyone who disagrees I just cannot respect. Well, it's essentially going back to the old days of fighters being the same weight on fight night. I agree with what you're saying but just not when two guys weigh the same. It would usually be ridiculous for a guy to jump up in weight two divisions to take on the best fighter but the difference is, Pacquiao is still a lightweight fighting at welter, just as Marquez will be. He's not a genuine welterweight - He's the same size as Marquez.
that is specualtion. Pacquiao is a bona fide welter weight now. He has had multiple fights there and is perfectly comfortable there, Marquez is not a welter weight. Different fighters who have different bodies can carry the extra weight with varying success. If you're going to say that this fight is ok for Manny then you have to say it was ok for Floyd too. Anyway, Manny Pacquiao right now is a comfortable welter, he has carried the extra weight perfectly, he has campaigned here for some time. Marquez is nobody at this weight. It's not about the difference in size, it's how they carry the weight. It was evident, whether he was fighting Mayweather or not, Marquez does not belong anywhere above 140, probably not even above 135. Pacquiao clearly carries that weight with ease, not JMM, which is why I can't imagine this being competitive.
IMHO pac is no more than lww now who just fights at ww, as much as im happy to know thi sfight has been made im not interested if the fight is anything over 140. oh and same day weigh in would be good too...
For me its the only other fight out there for pac besides Mayweather. Hopefully the weight thing wont hamper Marquez too much.
