Gaz you are totally right. It's not a welterweight fight. It's a 145 catchweight fight.

This idea that 'under 147' is a welter fight is beyond stupid. If you want to weigh less, fine. But if you insist the OTHER guy weighs less, it is not a welter fight.

    completely agree.

insisting on a 2lb weight reduction is not worth the hair splitting and damage done to the legacy. it gives floyd plenty to whine about on sky sports news too.

P.S. i haven't heard these Pacquiao rumours so someone please sent me a cheeky message in private, gratefully aprreciated.

So are you saying that Hatton was climbing throiugh the ropes at 140 when he was blowing away all those average guys at LWW?

Pac and Cotto were both within the welterweight limit and above the LWW so whats your problem?.At the weigh in all the Cotto fans were saying it was the best he had ever looked and wouldn`t use him having to be 145 as an excuse.

As I said if Cotto weighed in at 147 would the fight have been cancelled?

Childish and petty digs aside, Hatton weighed in at the light welterweight limit. Something Cotto wasn't able to do at welterweight on Saturday without getting a substantial "fine".

For it to be a welterweight fight BOTH fighters should have the option (without massive financial penalties) of weighing in at 147, not just at any point inbetween 140 to 147.

Whether Cotto looked great at the weight or would have done better with the extra 2 pounds is completely irrelevant . I can't believe people are having trouble grasping this issue.

At least TFFP understands the issue and discounts it, I think he's wrong but thats his opinion but your post makes it look like you don't understand the criteria of what makes a legitimate welterweight (or any other weight) title fight.

Its not just that both fighters weigh in inbetween 140-147, its that both fighters are allowed to weigh in up to 147.

The belt shouldnt have been on the line, there should be strict rules in place that if you want an opponents title you cant make him weigh lower than the division limit. It's a pisstake really.

I'm just glad its for the WBO bauble not the lineal title, then it would get messy.
