Its not just the fights, though. Training can also take its toll. I mean, Mayweathers a fighter who takes no punishment whatsoever, yet he still recognizes the importance of taking breaks after a career of 40+ fights and being in his 30s. So, I suppose I can understand where the thread-starters coming from. Mannys also in his 30s, hes had 50+ fights, and his style of fighting and training is pretty intense. Coupled with the out-of-ring commitments he has, its not that outrageous to suggest he has a lot on his plate, and could do with taking break from something. But, in my opinion, thats probably the least of his concerns. He needs to work out how to deal effectively with defensively orientated fighters, more than anything.
yep, i think the time off is whats hurting him too. he devotes his time off to politics and singing ***** cover songs. probably gets him a little too unfocused.

If anything this is what probaly keeps him engaged in something other than the sport. Far too many times, fighters devote all of their time to the sport, whether they are training for a fight, sparring with fighters who have an upcoming match, attending fights, etc... which almost gives a sense of "boxing overload". Not to mention the career options he has once he hangs the gloves up. No disrespect, but I doubt he could get a job as a commentator (though you never know)

Pacquiao fights twice a year because generally speaking, there is a very limited number of days in a given year for 'premium' PPV's. That, and his Congressional responsibilities perhaps.
For most fighters inactivity kills. Unless he is recovering from a serious injury that alternatively requires surgery, too much inactivity will not do him any good. At his age, he should make the most of it.
I'm getting so sick of this type of accusation. Pac should be glad, staying busy is good, and he seems to like it. If anything he should be fighting 3 times a year. Look at all the old school greats, some fought back to back weeks, EVEN DAYS! If your posted this based on the Marquez fight, then Pac must of needed some time off all three times he fought him.
He needs to do somethin'. He has no fire in him anymore. No fire against Marquez, no fire against Mosley, no fire against Margarito. Haven't seen it since Cotto. Just turns up and does a job these days.
