Let me pose a question. What if Pac gets completely outclassed by Mayweather similar to the JMM fight? Where does that put Manny?

Manny will still be top 30. It's Floyd who will have to be re-evaluated.

I'm not writing off Manny by means of 'Trinidad hitting too hard' exclusively. It's just that, as much as Pacquiao has improved technically, it's more to do with his composure imo, and as good as his calm yet rapid feet are looking, he is not an outboxer. Trinidad never learned how to cut off the ring, not at the top level, and it's the style that counters that problem that i see being his undoing time and time again. It wasn't just the good/decent level of lateral mobility that could get the job done either, we're talking a world class operator when we advertise for the job of man needed to beat Tito Trinidad. Pacquiao's fighting at a fast pace, looking to make angles on offense and land the short, basic yet great combos and power shots. Trinidad loved a man to stand in front of him and commit to the slaughter, and he wa so accurate. Even if Pac goes the distance, proving that chin, i reckon he would lose a decision.

That said, there is something that, it's strange i refuse to rule him out conclusively. He's a great fighter, this would be a tall order of immense proportions.

It's not going to happen. Pac doesn't fight anything like an overweight Marquez, and Floyd won't fight anything like he did against an overweight Marquez. It will be a completely different and far closer fight.

But if Mayweather wins, it doesn't dent Pacquiao's standing in a major way. A former fly and former superbantamweight doesn't lose major points for losing a welterweight fight against a naturally bigger man who has been fighting at welter or higher for years now.

If Mayweather fought Thomas Hearns at 154 and lost, would it decimate his all-time standing to you, considering everything he has done from sfw up as it stands?

I know what you mean. Would probably be best to rank Pac/discuss hypothetical matches once he's retired.

Cant agree with this. Manny is no longer a bantamweight, just like Mayweather is no longer a a super feather. Naturally bigger? Cant say Mayweather punches harder or is as physical in the ring as Manny has become. Although Mayweather has been a welter longer Pac is just as big and strong, proof by his recent fights. A one sided loss hurts his legacy big time in my opinion. A competitive loss doesnt, and a win elevates his status and justifies all the current hooplah in my opinion to one of the best all time. Beating a fighter with the style of Mayweather is the cream of the crop and the most difficult for a fighter of Manny's style.

Trinidad was such a huge welter. I'd pick him by TKO.

Gotta go with Tito, for the same reasons others are picking Tito here.

Pac will give him a good going over for 3 or 4 rounds but the second half of the fight would see Tito overwhelm Pac and ultimately stop him I think.

Pac's pawing/slow right jab would be an issue here for him eventually i think. It's usually not an issue because of his footspeed and ability to put opponent's into shells with his offense etc..

But with the height and reach advantage of Tito, he'll have to be careful with it, as Tito will not wait for the left hand coming after it, he'll just whip a left hook counter out there right away, as slow jabbing Vargas and others found out to their cost.

I could see a moment somewhere in the mid-rounds, where Pac maybe buoyed by early success, goes for one too many measuring right hands and gets tagged with a full force left as he's letting his own straight left go.that would be Tito's window for turning the fight i reckon.

I think Trinidad would be too powerful and strong for Manny. Tito had a good right hand in his prime too and Pac is hittable while I think he would win the early rounds its only a matter of time before Tito's size takes effect eventually stopping Pac anytime after 8.

And he usually didn't need to be presented with too many windows to capitalise.

Can I just say his stoppage of Campas (first man to do so) is an underrated stoppage. F'n horrific, Campas' head is all over the place, how hard was he???? Remains standing if I remember correctly.
