true but Rob now thinks Pac's punch resistance and power above 135lb is due to PED's

WTF jeff Barrea wasn't in his prime in the first fight? he was coming off his best win streak of his career!

What you have to remember is that the Oscar fight was seen as an absolutely outlandish freak show when it was made

It's easy to forget how truly staggering that performance was, how Pac redefined conventional wisdom about moving up in weight

Like Usain Bolt, Pac has made the extraordinary seem ordinary

i think people are biased towards style here, had pac been a conventional text book fighter his win over barrera would have been seen as a masterpiece and his fights with jmm would have been called technical chess matches

People are laughing but BB and Scurl are right about Pacquaio's technical deficiencies

He was still past his best, his performance in the Morales rematch was well below the performance of fight 1 (many feel the 2 fights decisions should be reversed) don't think he'd ever win against Pac though

thats bull**** its like saying you expected pac to beat de la hoya, pac was a no name wild brawler who barrera was supposed to outbox after beating such fighters as Naz Hamed, Morales, Tapia and Kevin Kelly.

The first Barrera fight is pacquiaos best win ever.

How about the part about Diaz and hatton and Katsidis beating pacquiao? or the part where some dude says he rates pacquiao the same as kelly pavlik and pac doesnt belong in the p4p rankings and jeff agrees?

I used to hate pac but i never denied his skills, you have to be extremely talented to pull off the **** he did against those type of fighters.

i lost 6k on the pac vs dlh fight.

genuinely thought dlh would spark him out with a left hook. pac had been handled twice by jmm and by morales, moving up 2 weight divisions, oscar coming down with huge height and reach advantages.

hardly anyone gave pac a chance

Don't get me wrong I didn't think at the time he'd beat MAB, in retrospect I don't think any MAB beats him BUT MAB wasn't at his best either. MAB also had a **** camp after the forrest fires around his camp. And no I thought DLH-Pac was a joke, I remember Forrest when he was 154lb WBC champ saying 'can I fight JMM then' and everyone pissing themselves laughing

Didn't see that, many people didn't think Pac would carry 135/140/147 too well, they realy didn't realise that at 130 he was 144lb man who cut to 130, I've picked Manny over everyone bar DLH since his Morales 2 win (including JMM who I had beating him). Juan Diaz and Katsidis were pretty well regarded back then too, I remember people scoffing at the idea Khan could hang with them (I picked Khan to be P4P top10 coming into his MAB fight)

EDIT: Pac was always P4P, I think they were objecting to him being top3 and saying he shouldn't be rated over JMM who many impartial fans believed had just beat Pac. I didn't agree with Pavlik being above him, but Pavlik pre-BHOPs was seen as the new Monzon, undefeated, beat the man who beat Hopkins, beat that big black latino when he was hyped (forget his name). Calzaghe being rated over Pac at that time was also not such a bad call

I remember making a thread after Pacquaio lost to Morales and talking about who would be P4P top5 in 5 years time. People laughed at me for including Pac's name, but based on his age I picked him (I didn't think he'd go onto to do near what he's done ofcourse). I think I included Taylor and Guzman in that list, which proved to be wrong ofcourse

:deal Surely its incomparable (is that a word?) Pacman is a ATG. Kelly - great fights but really? Win lose or draw over the years it's been top stuff.
Someone posted that Pac v Morales I and it was even carnage back then even though he lost - he hasn't stopped since, the people he's beat and the way he beat them is great. Well done pac man, I'll back ya, you are that good, I dont think any fighter at the moment can match it.

    Well there you go :p

It's threads like this that make me laugh when I then see people giving predictions as if they're fact.

Boxing is so unpredictable and it truly is the one sport where somebody can look awful/past it one fight and then absolutely superb/world class the next fight.
