the thing I like about Khan fighting Mayweather is that he offers lateral movement which isn't something we get a lot from Floyds opponents. That plus him being a young prime fighter at the top end of a division is sweet by me.
Marquez CAN beat him but that's a big IF. He has the intelligence to befuddle Pacquiao and put a clinic on him(ala the second fight) but age is still a factor to consider. At most I think JMM will give him problems for a few rounds as Pacquiao is not that skilled but if Pacquiao doesn't knock him out early he's horrible. TBF, Marquez has been asking for this fight for awhile and they haven't been in the same weight class in years but still. He's horrible. Pacquiao that is.
Scored the first fight 113-112 Pac. Second fight 114-113 Marquez. Believe Pac is bigger, stronger, and a bit too much at this weight. Marques will fight gallantly, but Pac will win a clear UD IMHO. I think the biggest improvement besides any emphasis on Pac's conditioning or power as he's moved up would be his improvement in counter-punching. He's just a much better all around counter-puncher, besides having an even better right hand now than in 2008.
The odds are stacked against him but make no mistake, JMM will be up for this fight more than he's been than any before. Ive a feeling this fight is gunna be Manila-esque
Absolute ****ing farce. Marquez barely squeeked by Diaz second time out. Hes shot to **** - just the way Manny likes it - and so he finally agrees to the third fight. A complete ****ing farce
I agree though, not for the same reasons that Beouche does, but I don't want this fight. Marquez is nothing at the weight, it's just a popularity fight and they know it will sell. Like I say, Floyd and Pac are both stinking up my sport, unless they fight young guys and freshen it up, or just stop being absolute twats and fight each other.
I've have always thought that you need a good jab to trouble Mayweather, before scoring with the heavy power punches. De La Hoya's jab had the 'alarm bells' ringing for the best part of the first 7 rounds of their fight. He was shooting the jab, wonderfully, then following up with shots to the body and head. De La Hoya just ceased on what was working for him. Hatton rocked Mayweather back on his heels with jab, during the first round of their fight. While pressuring is an important area to beating Mayweather, you need to give him something else to think about, before getting close. The jab is the key. It's a punch that troubles him. Khan also has the ability to throw combinations. Thats another nice part of his arsenal he'd need as well. Lateral movement also comes in handy, as you said.
I didn't really say that lateral movement comes in handy or anything like that, I just meant that it's a change for a Mayweather opponent being one that uses lateral movement, and I like change. That's why I always wanted him to fight Cory Spinks, it just would have been something different for me. It's not that I think it is going to beat him or anything, I just want something fresh to get up for, that's all, so I like the Khan fight in that sense. I totally agree on you on the jab point though, educated pressure behind a jab must be key. Wading into Mayweather without a jab is ****ing pointless, we know that now.
I get you. But lateral movement is very handy, as Mayweather does have his occasional moments of stalking and pressuring. It's better to have that type of movement, rather than standing and trading with him, especially if he hurts you. Some fighters have no option but to stand and trade or cover-up into a shell when hurt. Movement is a very critical area for so many greatly skilled boxers. It was one of the main ingredients that made the prime Ali what he was, as you know.
Marquez has definitely seen better days. I believe he sees this as his last true shot at glory and has probably trained like never before. All the work post-Pacquiao II culminates to this fight. You'd think that Marquez shouldn't be counted out considering that, knockdowns aside, Marquez seemed to have Pacquiao's number to an extent. Pacquiao has not fought a highly skilled fighter like Marquez who could potentially take advantage of those flaws since facing him years ago. Fighters like Margarito, Mosley, Clottey and Hatton did not bring that level of technical skill and adaptability to the table. However I have a feeling that the general presumption that Marquez is past his best while Pacquiao has reached his peak will prove true. The old legs won't hold up under the punishment but the spirit will. Several knockdowns later the referee or the corner will pull him out, unless Pacquiao shows a lack of killer instinct as he has for the past few fights. That's only if Marquez is as washed up as he looks to be at this stage in his career. Hoping for one big effort on his part but I've done that with a lot of old fighters in recent times while realizing that it probably won't happen. Few have delivered. Old Morales probably surprised me the most, as crude as Maidana is.
I taped fight # 1 off regular HBO in 2004... I did the rematch on PPV a few years later... I'm gonna pass on this PPV of $55 bucks and do the HBO replay... Marquez is a credit to boxing, but he's only proven great between 126 to 135 pounds... Manolo Packer will likely run through the 38 year old Marquez up at 141 pounds and more.... MR.BILL:bbb:hi::thumbsup
Manny to TKO JMM in round 8, with JMM going down in the 1st and 3rd rounds before having a few ok rounds where he tags pacman (straight rights and jabs) a bit but takes some leather himself before Nacho does not let him come out to see round 8. JMM will not look to pretty by the end of it, he has been on the slide when Manny has been coming up and is just past his peak. JMM had the style to give Pac fits , but íf Kats can drop him what will Pac do to him?
