If you had to bring back classic boxers, would they be able to fight as often as they did in their hey day? What prevents boxers today from fighting each other? Would boxing fans demand better matchups between fighters? Back in the hey days, boxing fans had no voice.
I was watching Duran-Leonard , Monzon-Napoles, Duran-Barkley tonight. Good fight, it seems like there were too much hugging back then, the referee doesn't break-it-up and head clashing was frequent. Boxing rules are different now, more boxing action for the fans and more safety to the fighter themselves. Bring back outdoor afternoon boxing fights.
great fighter but needs more fights to be top 20 atg there was just thread on hopkins asking if hes top 30 an although hes not eye pleseing his resume an longevity beter than pacs in time that might change
Boxing rules haven't changed in the slightest since the 70's and 80's aside from the fact they've gotten rid of the 15 round championship fights. You're acting like guys like Sugar Ray Leonard fought in the bare-knuckle era. There were less breaks from the refs because the fighters knew better how to free themselves up and continue fighting while in a clinch, which was best personified in the Duran/Leonard fight. Not sure what hugging you're referring to in either Monzon/Napoles or Duran/Barkley, both of those fights were fought very cleanly, and often from a comfortable medium range. The Duran/Leonard fight had little do with hugging, but rather the art of clinch-fighting. Duran's display on the inside in that fight was nothing short of masterful.
Old school guys will always get ridiculously overrated. It happens in every sport. They all had magical powers.
it will change if he takes the blood test...hopkins will go from better to WAY better cuz pac will either get embarassed by floyd or test positive:yikes
so pac is top 10? can you please post your top 10, it would be great thank you, and you cant be serious about the "more boxing action", that is just laughable.
Yes, but you were claiming the other way around . This must be some twisted, voodoo Filipino logic, as in I'm affraid of giving blood but half my arm is covered in tatoos.
I was refering to the Duran-Leonard fights instead, the referee was reluctant to break up the clinch. Duran doesnt need to clinch, but he was basically scoring points off each clinch that he started. The fight was still exciting, but I prefer no clinching in boxing. Today, when boxers are clinching or hugging, the referee steps in and breaks them up apart which I prefer. The only clinching that should be allowed is when the fighter is leaning back on the ropes and the opponent is close enough to do boxing inside. I wasnt refering to Monzon-Napoles and Duran-Barkley....sorry....
Listen kid... I saw those fighters when they were still fighting. I understand that you're very young, still very idealistic and naive about the 'good old days' but you couldn't be more wrong. We just went thru the best FW division I've ever seen, from Hamed to Pacquiao. The lightweights were ****ing awesome with PBF, Corrales, Freitas, and Casamayor. We've had ****ing Mike ****ing Tyson at HW, along with Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and the K brothers. In short, these guys would kick the holy living **** out of boxers from the 30's, and you have no idea what the **** you're talking about. I mean, you're pretty smart for a 14 yr old or whatever the **** you are, but overall you're trying way too hard to be boxing smart by bringing up names from 1922 that you know nobody knows anything about except the stories. You don't see 30 round fights anymore, because no human being could take the pounding modern day fighters dish out for that long. You don't see elite fighters put their heads down and windmill their arms until someone falls down like your legendary idols did. You talk a lot of ****, but you don't know nearly as much as you think you do. In 10 years or so you'll realize that.
