The good thing is, there is no ONE record book that everyone abides by. Not in boxing. So it's moot, as some WILL see this bout the way you do, some will see it the way I do. Many will say it was a vacant belt. Many might try to call Pac the world Champ. There will be a LOT of different things said, so worrying about whether some mythiucal record book recognizes his paper title along with his linear titles is a waste of time.

ONe thing most historians will agree on is thre fact that there are many champs in each division. That already waters down any "multiple division titles" feats into something less.

And regardless of HOW you feel, Pac WILL have won a 'title' in 8 divisions, because 151 falls within the range for JrMW.

No, there is ALWAYS only one champ per division. It's just that, not every division has the champ easdily pointed out.

You are worrying way too much on something that isn't a big deal.

He's already a 7 division champ, but it's his LINEAL titles that most talk about. No one makes a fuss over his belt at 135 do they? Nope.

But you're talking about not being able to compare Pacquiao's multi weight titles with boxers from history.

Well you can compare with Sugar Ray Leonard, right, who won a SMW title and a LHW title in the same fight?

You can compare with Oscar De La Hoya who staged one of the biggest robberies of all time just to steal a paper title at middleweight, then made sure he had a catchweight to fight the real champion (but still lost)?

What was the rehydration limit in the Pacquiao/Cotto contract?

 The mysterious re-hydration clause...to this date, that has never been even proven to have existed.

If Margarito is still good and comes to fight and swings he might be too much for Pacman. Pacman is better, but the style and size of Margarito might be too much. Especially the way Pacman seems to like to go to war. If Pacman fought by boxing and not getting into a war he would win. He is a little like Hearns. Hearns liked to brawl when he didn't have to.

Why did they chose Margo instead of Shane. He would have bought into the catchweight jive....after all he wanted to fight Pac at 140 and they said Hell No!!!

its all about selling the fight. Marg is seen as an underdog at 147. climb up a bit higher in weight to bring Margs chances up. anything above 147 is all to Margs advantage. giving Margs doubters something to think about and in turn sells fight.

do you think people would tune in if Floyd/JMM was at 147 limit at the on set? catchweight were put at that fight to make JMMs chances higher and make people think that Marquez have a bit of hope at beating Floyd.

With all the fighters out here today ,they could have picked another fighter ,so what the deal with Floyd didn't go through ,but fighting Margo is too easy of a fight for Pac....I believe Arum didn't want the Pac & Floyd fight to come off ....when will we learn.

Right the more he goes up in weight, Pac certainly is giving up size, but the size disadvantage is made up by using the catchweight

regarding the second green, yeah true a Welterweight fight doesn't need to be exactly at 147 to count as welterweight

but if you look up the definition of welterweight. It is defined as "a division in boxing where fighters are allowed to weigh up to 147"

so when it comes to catchweights, don't you see a problem? it goes against the original definition of WW and changes the max weight limit.
    This content is protected
: Divisions might not be about a single weight (I agree with you that both fighters don't have to be 147 on the button) but at the same time

Middleweight, Lightweight and Welterweight (if you look these definitions up) are all defined by the maximum weight allowed.

so yes anything over 140 and up to + including 147 counts as welterweight. And regarding both men agreeing to it, Margarito still has no license to box in the U.S ... basically he's got no leverage when it comes to contract negotiations

first of all what makes this meaningless

and secondly my issue with catchweight comes more from the whole Cotto-Pac .. particularly Roach's numerous boasts about using the catchweight to drain the opponent

that's my issue ... on one hand Roach wants to run his mouth and say, "We'd beat Cotto at any weight."

and then on the other he's talking about fighting a weaker Cotto in the ring

IMO that doesn't need explaining ... as why would you support someone (Pacquiao) taking on an already weakened opponent.

it's like Roach is already discrediting the win before it happens.

green: and that's where my issue stems from it

it's one thing to fight @ a catchweight. But when one of the trainers is mouthing off about how much of an advantage it'll be for his fighter it rubs me the wrong way.

My oh my is that Manny Pacquiao one generous dude. All of this time, I thought that he was fighting at the higher weight to win a title in his 8th weight class. Instead, as you point out, he is being a true warrior and conceding an advantage to Margo to make it a tougher fight.
