But he was going to fight Dubois. And given his weight, he would have probably gassed out vs Dubois too.
Yeah man, and you've every right to hold it...and you are right...a fighter carrying more weight usually tires. Joe SEEMED to have put a lot of work in though and I don't believe his csmp would have underprepared. Too knowledgeable, too professional. He was originally training for a zhang rematch so he'd have planned for 12 hard rounds, and the fact he maintained this weight when they got the Dubois shout suggests they were happy with his engine and beloved it made him more resilient. But, that's only my opinion. Take care brother man, peace and love, gbn x
Maybe. But I think the game plan was to do what they did in the 2nd Chisora fight, come in heavy, prevent being pushed back and exposing how poor Dubois is when he can't just walk forward and grind you down. You take away that forward momentum you take away much of Dubois effectiveness. Dubois right now is basically Chisora 2.0, trained by the same trainer as Chisora and ploughs forward all fight long, only he has a better jab and more power than Chisora. Though I do think Chisora with all his experience is still craftier and sneakier with his counters than DDD. I could see Parker's speed being a factor. If he can beat DDD to the punch, much like how Joyce's jab did and stop Dubois in his tracks and limit his forward momentum then Dubois will struggle. It's a dangerous tactic no doubt, given DDD's power but Parker has the chin to make this strategy work for him. Regardless of the weight I think it will be a close fight.
I think Parker's weight tonight would have worked against Dubois as well. I would be interested to see if they change it now that they have more time between fights, whether that is against Dubois or Usyk, or god forbid Kabayel. I'd like to see what a leaned out Parker looks like, but he takes me as the kind of person who feels weak/doesn't like being lean.
So how do power punchers go up in classes an and still score ko’s. punchers are born, not made. as for the example, they prove my point; wilder put on weight and was no more powerful than when 209lbs. Foreman put on about 40lbs and didn’t hit as hard either
For what little it's worth, Parker didn't look like he'd put on rubbish weight, OR juice weight. He's a big, thick guy and I don't think he's ever been training to his full potential. A guy like that's genes mean he's predisposed to putting on functional weight and strength. It will be interesting to see if he stays around this weight, and if it affects his engine. But he looked fit, strong and happy in the ring. I'll bet he is eating properly, recovering properly and not 'training down', his weight gain looks healthy and I'd maybe suggest 260 is a decent weight for him now...as Foreman said during his comeback after standing on the scales, they are HEAVYWEIGHTS.
I think Parker's confidence in his power will be through the roof after yesterday, so he'll probably stay at this weight (or become even heavier, who knows).
You are correct, he is a naturally heavy guy who through crappy S&C most of his career was "out of shape" for an elite athlete. Just look at his thighs, they are way thicker than most other heavyweights. I reckon they can move his weight to match his opponents and game plan, if he was fighting Usyk for example I reckon they will size him down a bit, especially if they get the time.
Parkers 267 lbs looked good everyone wants to emulate the Usyk lightweight style but the punching power usually isn’t as good at those lower weights I know this is UFC but when Daniel Cormier moved up he noticed the extra 20-30lbs just gave him great hitting power so he kept the weight. plus weight doesn’t always mean you have poor cardio. In fact some fat guys can have just as good cardio but they do have to train harder
