Speaking of Terry Norris (who i'm really biased against due to his bashing of Ray Leonard) he was a better fighter then people give him credit for, certainly being sandwhiched between Tommy Hearns and Mike McCallum is some feat (thats where i rate him) even if that division is somewhat of a halfway house, much like super middle and not the most rich or steaped in talent pool in boxing history.

Another fighter who Dawson might be compared to at this juncture is 2nd to Nunn. I really hope Chad's career doesn't end up like Mickeal Nunn minus the drug charges. Nunn was a skilled guy, but there was something lacking upstairs with him as well. I'll just give Chad one more hour before kicking him out of the club. lol

Poor "need to be more Bad" Chad, that's Judah, Taylor, Nunn and Norris i've now compared him with. lol

Little peak at Norris vs. Brown 1 for anyone interested.

The rematch when Terry fought his fight.

You were probabily a witness to the latter part of his career, judging by your age. Anyway probabily better he changed it, Cream brings up all sorts of connotations. Btw one of the worst decisions has got to be Arnold Cream being jobbed against that Bomber fella who once signed for your lot in the city that slaves built, lol!

On fighters with issues though, it got me into thinking about Paul Williams, who probabily has too much of what Chad Dawson needs...ain't it funny?

I watched some of his fights today (vs. Winky and Verno) and the kid is scary because he can throw so many different pitches like the knuckle, curve, screw, split, change-up, and oh yeah that fastball. Why on earth would you wonna give up your height and not maximise that wingspan?

I remember thinking after the Verno fight, that unless someone proved me wrong, I was convinced Paul fought Verno at close quarters to expose his own chin a bit to bait 47/54 prima donnas to think they saw some deficiencies and step up. I thought he was that damn good to carry out a plotter role just to bait and switch 1 of these protective custody pretty boy's like Berto. Maybe this is all just me and i need step back from jumping on bandwaggons? lol But Williams does have the ability to box backwards and put on masterclass, wouldn't you agree? so why does he try and just walk everyone down?

Like i said though, all these fighters have issues, it's why the Mayweathers, Pacquiao's, Calzaghe's are the cream of the crop because they're able to mask whatever issues they may have.

Slip, how do you see B-Hop - Pascal?

Can X roll back the years one more time?

Here's the thing Granty, Pascal is the perfect style for Hopkins to shoot lead rights, pivot and then deliver liver fellow ups. The only problem is old man Bernard has shown real signs of father time. FFS he got tired and barely threw punches against a shadow of Roy Jones who Danny Green had just bulldozed.

If you're an elite fighter who can outwork Hopkins then you're gonna cause him a lot of problems at this point. I don't fear for Hopkins getting hurt - he has mastered that non-crowd pleasing approach of defensive angles to where I don't see anyone knocking him out...but the problem is that he doesn't have the tank to work and reset his attack anymore. His ring smarts will keep him from getting punished but not being able to stay with these young athletic studs.

Having said that Grant. Have you ever seen a special needs' kid play basketball? My point is that you could blow the whistle on him at any given time for double dribble or traveling. Well I'm blowing the whistle on myself as I must be 4 and 10 in my last 14 boxing picks: Headlined by Chad's passive performance. And on that depressing note, I'm picking Pascal and Bute at 115-113 on all cards vs Hopkins so that means that Hopkins will probabily air both of them out within 6, lol!

Slip, great posts all round (as always) :good

One thing; from the footage of Walcott-Louis 1 that is viewable, I didn't think either man really proved their dominance.

I think their 2nd meeting is a much better gauge, and judging from what I've seen of the first fight (all that's available I think) a much better fight in general. :yep

Aesthetically, I wouldn't say watching Dawson is as profound an experience as say, Nunn was. I'm just not over-awed by him.

Good fighter? Without a doubt. From the fights I've seen of him (all widely available stuff) I just don't expect a sudden turnaround.

He really needs to stay at the top level and fight Cloud next, I think we will really see what Dawson is all about there.

Oh, and Hop can formulate a plan for Pascal no doubt, but I think he'll find it hard to contain Pascals energy and eye catching punches. Hop would really have to dig his punches in and be at his cagy best. Pascal has nothing on 'Nard in the technical department (who has?) but at this stage, a hungry, younger Elite-level operator is not a good matchup for Hopkins IMO, Pascal is certainly more of a challenge than Pavlik was, and less easy to time consistently/dissuade IMO.

Tough fight to pick, it really is 'who knows' until the night when we see where Hop is at, glorified exhibition or not, Hop went back to the Calzage tactics for the RJJ rematch, and clearly has more trouble than ever at going 12 rounds.

Hopkins' feet would be the biggest element in a fight with Pascal IMO, regardless of what Jean brings to the table. However, Pascal could keep backing Hopkins up, not landing much but not allowing B-Hop to get off his own shots.

Your heart tells you Hopkins, master of the sweet science, still has one last gutsy performance in him.

Your head tells you, despite Pascals fallaces, Hopkins would be 46 (at least) by the time the fight would come off, and lacks the equaliser Archie Moore had to save his ass in old age.

Flea, I know you can never discount Hopkins

But, Bernard played the old okie dokie against Calzaghe and Jones, I can't remember the last time he KO'd anyone and he's too far gone in his own masterpiece of defense to ever sit on his punches and create consistent offense to do it now. Don't forget he had a dead man walking with Pavlik and failed to stop him.

I just can't get over what i saw vs Roy Jones, i'm sorry but it was just pathetic. It's my view that he can no longer fight 12 rounds and those bogus injuries were an embarrassment! Landing 4 punches a round and clinching/headbutting, gassing out and faking injuries against a shot ass Roy? lol

He realized Roy wasn't budging and started his Academy Award Oscar nonsense. His revenge is against a fighter who's not half the fighter he once was. If Roy has 1 percent of his reflexes he wins the fight. I think Pascal and Bute are licking their chops.

Btw on a sidenote; As you know i'm a big fan of Joe Calzaghe and i was thinking of fantasy match-up's with him, went through the usual Toney, Jones prime etc then i thought of one that always intrigued me and thats Herol Graham vs. Joe C Wales. Does Herol with his style have a chance?

It's probabily a nonsense match up, because if you take the height of Calzaghe at 168 and especially when he fought Lacy, i couldn't see Herol beating Joe and maybe might've lost as wide as 10-2. i've watched that Lacy fight so many times and Joe looked like he did a desk full of cocaine lol. Joe walked through everything in the first couple of rounds and was balls on accurate with his combos. point is, i can't think of too many 168 pounders who could've beaten Joe at least on that night, imo. But tell me otherwise if you think different...Just one that always interested me, a bit like Mayweather Jr. vs. the next generation Spinks.

    Thoughts on Bute vs Pascal?

Again.... much like Dawson I see another unbeaten fighter getting a lot of praise despite beating leftovers such as Edison Miranda and now taking on WBO level Brinkley.

    Is he really all that?

I'm still not certain on Bute, BB. But, given with what he's been working with, I think he looks good. Not mind blowing, but certainly formidable.

At 175? Nothing to gauge with.

Only messing with you Gazo. :good

Anyway, that good point you brought up about Chad's stamina looks like it might have been validated. There's an article on Bscene which describes Dawson's training regime as 'terrible' and also goes into more detail with his contractual problems with the hip-hop mafia. Sad stuff!

The 'terrible' training regime takes me back to this though, i was ranting and raving about why Chad was using this gimmick before the fight.

I really liked Nunn, it's a shame how it all went for him. He was a bit like a very fat chick with a beautiful face...waste of talent. lol

Nunn, was absolute quality. Toneys win over him was brilliant IMO, sadly, many seem to think it was just a hail Mary punch.

Nunns win over Kalambay was one result you NEVER would've predicted  A total anomaly!
