whats that supposed to mean?i've been on this site since either 2001 or 2002 its gone down down a few times buddy,i've also been into fighting since 1959
Agree with practically everything you say, except about Mercante. Even so, I always had a soft spot for George Chuvalo. It was unbelievable the amount of punishment the man could take. You are right, he would eventually had to have gone down against Foreman and Frazier had those fights not been stopped. I saw a picture on Ebay of Chuvalo's face after the Frazier fight....gruesome. It is also amazing that Chuvalo still has his marbles after all these years.
Thanks for the heads up. Then I suppose there's no point in me even creditting him for being robbed. Cleroux had a very good record from what I can see on paper. Of course, there are no big ticket names like Ali, Frazier, Patterson, etc. But then again, Chuvalo never beat those men either. Probably the biggest thing he is often credited for - competitve losing efforts.
I don't think Chuvalo should be criticized that much for having his best showings in losing efforts. This is the case for many fighters, for example Jersey Joe Walcott who is held on high regard in these forums (not directly comparing Chuvalo to Jersey Joe since I do feel that Walcott was the better fighter). Not just anybody could go the distance with the men that he fought against and take the punches that he took. Wins over Quarry, Jones, Ramos, DeJohn, Cleroux, Durelle, Parker, Wipperman, Williams, Miteff, Besmanoff and tough efforts against Ali and Patterson prove that he was more than just a "regional talent" but his many losses, some inexcusable, also show that he was at best no more than a solid heavyweight contender. I thought Quarry vs Chuvalo was a fairly tough fight for both, not some one-sided beating that ended in a fluke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4WbJWdWuoc
if you watch the fight, chuvalo hurt quarry the round before he damaged him with a body attack on the ropes, the fight was a pier 6 brawl, quarry took a knees after the knockdown cause he was hurt and missed the count.chuvalo is a rough fighter to be in the ring with
