Like Greg said, I was a big fan of Hoko's. I saw him from right back in his amateur days, I was even at his debut on the Bruno Witherspoon undercard. He was a real good hard hitting pressure fighter, I wouldn't say he wasn't durable, all pressure fighters are vulnerable to counterpunches. At his best I think he would of chewed McMillan up, I don't think McMillan had the strength to keep him off. His biggest problem was that he marked up very badly, I was in company once with him and his family and they were concerned with it then, in fact I think they wanted him to pack it in. This was just after the first Villasana fight which he dominated but in the end just couldn't see. I can't imagine what he looked like the following day. Well he stuck at it and it paid off in the rematch where he got banged up again but won widely. I was surprised the way he lost to Vargas but Vargas looked very good in that fight, I expected a bigger future for Vargas but his reign didn't last long. The Robinson fight he looked like a shadow of himself, he was in a lot of wars and I think it just caught up with him. Got to say watching him as an amateur I could see the potential he had back then, he looked very special and so exciting.
Great posts here ! Hoko is my favorite British Fighter, easily...... I love the guy, fun style........awesome left hook ! He reminds me a british version o Armstrong..... A much better, much more skilled version of Katsidis...with much more power..... McGrain posted on YT recently his fight with Cepeda.....it´s worth a look for sure !!!
