Pure power yes but practical power maybe not. Smith doesn't strike me as particularly fast and it might be hard for him to throw heavy shots cos he won't be able to land in time.
I'm in Munich mate, till next week. Gutted i'm missing it. Got Sky here though at my mum and dads so will be watching on TV.
Cheers, first one was the Moore one and wasn't too good- lots of personal **** been going on but i'll get better.
Hearns was entirely about leverage. Thats why his left hook to the head was so poor compared to his right hand and left hook to the body. His dimensions allowed him to lever himself extrememly well into punches. With regards to been taught to punch. I had one stoppage out of 16 but in the ams I had 7 out of 19 wins. All pretty much clean. I don't think there is a great deal of difference in one shot power but I think that some people have the ability to punch hard again and again (Mike Gomez) and others can disguise their punches very well (Naz). I think power in boxing is more about technique then Stength X Speed. I also think that any boxer can punch hard enough to knock anyone out- if they land right. Landing right is the hard part.
Oh, yeah. Its timing and leverage with those guys but I think he age that Hearns turned pro and changed his style accordingly probably co-incided (sp) with him getting a bit more strength in his early 20s. I'm pretty sure I've read an interview with Stewart where he says something similar (maybe in Four Kings). I remember going into the Schuler fight people were questioning Hearns' power at 160 after the Hagler fight...... Schuler died shortly after that fight and Hearns gave his family the NABF belt he's won from Schuler so it could be buried with him. Class act.
I agree. I don't think he is as physically overpowering as a Foreman to be able to implement his power. He doesn't look particularly strong, nor incredibley durable to eat a blow and come forward. I also think he is sometimes trying to be too technical when he has to just go and get it. I think it was against Banks where I was thinking go go go. Don't stop, go get him. Not in spurts. Stay on him! That ended in a SD.
The Schuler dismissal was absolutely brutal. Poor James. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs_stsBokVE[/ame]
21-0 16Ko's isn't a bad ledger. ..... Just brutal. Hearns could be frightening like that. It was like Lewis.... a different Hearns seemed to turn up some nights.
Thats the guy ps Cobra, SRL hosted the show and gave the odd bit of advice but he wasnt a coach to any of them
