Jeff Fenech was another fighter with a strong beard until Azumah Nelson reached him, After the Nelson rematch, Fenech went down more than a crack *****. I just think it's just accumulated punishment that caught up to P-Will.
Question for the Chin Checkers of ESB. Of all the ATG chins, who would have taken that punch Williams took on saturday without dropping like a stone?
glass jaw? I think if he had a glass jaw, the flush shots of margarito, cintron and martinez, in the first fight clearly, would have knocked him out. so is everyone who gets knocked out immediately placed on the glass jaw list? who else saw the knockout, it was a picture perfect, flush shot. when tommy hearns did it to roberto duran, I doubt people were saying that, and even he had been down prior to that.
No. Margarito prepares by forcing punches down the middle. The few times he was hit clean with a straight left he didn't see he was hurt badly. None were as hard as the punch Martinez hit Williams with saturday. I firmly belive that if Santos could rock Margarito with a clean left, that left Martinez threw on saturday would knock him clean out. As for Lamotta? He was another guy who forced punches down the middle. I want someone to give me a real example of the same kind of shot Martinez landed and the guy was still conscious.
I agree with you that questionable and "suspect" chins DO exist in boxing. Look at the man in your avatar, for example. Same goes for Rico's. :deal The thing that makes Williams' situation so interesting is the fact that he was KTFO against a high level fighter at 160. Maybe, just maybe, the chin issue played a part in him fighting at 147 for so long while being 6'2/6'3. Let's face it; Williams was feasting on little guys at welter. When you move up, then your chin gets tested by guys closer to your natural size. I still think Sergio deserves full credit for timing him so consistently. He wore Reyes gloves last night for a reason -- he was looking for a KO and was able to score the KO of the Year. Williams was hit so many times by that same punch in 13 rounds prior to being rendered unconscious. He was so open, for so long, that it was only a matter of time before he was hit just right. :bbb
Chuvalo McCall LaMotta Hagler lots of guys could - and did - take flush shots from fighters with 50 percent KO rates.:yep
i think that paul williams is further proof that glass jaws exist in boxing :deal once they crack, they never come back :nono
Well ****, if legendary chinned heavyweight Oliver McCall can take that shot from 157 pound Martinez then Paul's chin must be glass.
Obviously I am talking in a pound for pound sense. A solid chinned fighter might have hit the deck, but he would have gotten up. Williams' was out cold - a CLEAR sign of a glass jaw.
