What is up with posters here that they insult fighters for retiring early, yet spend endless attention on and insulting the aging fighters who refuse to hand up the gloves?

We should never ***** at a fighter for retiring at any point. Even Lennox Lewis... (even though that one does hurt the legacy .5%)

If Lara KO's him he should retire.

I tend to think that Williams' inability to secure big fights has somewhat demoralized him and perhaps made him feel disillusioned. Couple his failed attempts to land fights against Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto and Mosley with the Pavlik debacle - and his ko defeat to Martinez, I think Paul has come to terms with his career falling short of his ultimate goals in boxing.

Williams needs a few W then he'll talk again about retirement. After the KO loss it is understandable that his confidence is low. A few impressive performances will change that I believe. And that should start this weekend!!

Oh cool, getting out early so he can sit around for the rest of his life complaining that everyone was scared to fight him.

You can thank Mr. Peterson's complete lack of teaching Paul proper boxing techniques for this retirement. Paul has taken way to much abuse because he doesn't use his height and eats way too many punches.

I don't blame him. He has taken plenty of shots to the head in his career. His KO loss to Martinez was a scary sight.

I wish I had $1.00 for every time a fighter said he was going to retire, but stayed in the game!

That is dissapointing, but I understand it at the same time. Id rather him get out too early then too late. The guy takes his fair share of punches, Id like to see him leave boxing with his health.

And its got to be frustrating when nobody will fight you from 147 to 154, and you have to fight at middle to get big, and credible fights.

If he's made enough money to retire on and has some investments (which he does), he should hang 'em up as soon as he has the money. If he has the money now, I say screw the 2 other fights...

I bet the most everybody that's talking negative does is eat Pringles and scream at the TV when Paul is putting his life on the line.

If I could make enough money boxing 2 x's to retire... I'd box 2 x's and buy a fishing boat.

Would you complain that everyone was scared of you?
