Paul Williams vs Dmitri Pirog

And the next career middleweight Williams faces will be his first....except for the dynamic Andy Kolle.

I'm interested to see how he reacts when he doesn't have the Mr. Fantastic-esque size advantages he's had at 147 and 154.

I like Williams, but his domain as far as I can see is 154 or 147. I'm not sold on him vs full-fledged middleweights because alot of what he does well doesn't necessarily translate to a move up in weight and he gets hit too much in an effort to give the fans the blood and guts alot of them pay for.

 

I think this is the perfect guy to expose the deficiencies in Paul's game. I mean think about it. Watch the Cintron fight objectively and no matter what you feel about how Cintron got himself out of that fight the one thing you can't disagree with is that Cintron was able to affectively counter punch Paul. Now that doesn't mean he was winning that fight because Paul was having some sucess; however, turn that fight around and drop a guy with the slick defensive skills of Pirog and the much much better counter punching skills and I believe you have a recipe for disaster.

The Sergio Martinez fight also showed that if a fighter has good foot work, balance and the head movement to slip several punches in a row it negates aa lot of what Paul Willaims is able to do offensively. I think in a fighter like Pirog you have a fighter that without having to adapt his natural style can do at the same time both the things that were affective for Sergio Martinez and the things that were affective for Cintron. And that's a scary thought.

 

maybe I might be overrating this kid alittle, but check out pirog's other fights, past fights. before jacobs, he wasn't exactly facing total bums.

Pirog holds a win over Jantuah who was 35 years old, had been in many wars, and lost to Ouma when he was pretty close to prime.

Pirog holds a win over a guy who had trouble with Micheal Waker's pressure, got rocked by Ishe Smith, and was facing his first significant test.

And the polls on ESB have Pirog as the favorite over Williams and/or Pavlik.

Please just stop!

 

I gotta agree. Even fights prior to Maravilla and Kermit show Williams having some problems dealing with the kind of offensive style Pirog brings. It would be an interesting fight.

Dmitry is being a little overrated in a "what have you done for me lately" manner, but I think he has a lot of potential. He's going to live up to it if he keeps his head right and has good people in his camp.

We might see this fight come off someday. I think he could give Williams a lot of trouble.

 

That was some frustrating **** to watch because Cintron is not a bum. And yes, he was doing real well until he tore those stitches in his vagina. :roll:

The guy was clearly tryna get paid for a no contest. There were a few glimpses where Williams looked like he wanted to laugh about it.

 

I agree. Dmitry might be a little overrated right now. Prior to last saturday he'd never scored a 1 punch KO so no knowing much about Jacobs chin it is hard to say how he'd affect Paul Williams when he hit him. The other thing that people need to realize is that just like Floyd's cryptonine is Castillo and SRL's was Duran the type of guy that is going to give Pirog hell is a volume puncher with a size and strength advantage. I don't think Paul's good enough to be that guy (that has more of a Golovkin or Lemieux ring to it) but he's close enough to being that guy to make this a dam good fight. If Pirog's power doesn't turn out to be what it's made out to be I think a fight with Pavlik would be a little more interesting then a fight with PW. Simply because of the even bigger size and more destructive power he posses.

 

Ouch that must of hit a nerve. To be honest, I really don't know if Pirog is good enough at the moment to beat either, he hasn't been tested, but he does have a style that balances both defense and offense pretty well. The only other fighter around those weight classes I see doing that is Andre Ward. Fights good on the inside, fights good on the outside. Takes his time too. Great at neutralizing their opponents strengths. Also looking forward to seeing Jacobs again and I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch of these 2 in the future.

Pirog by knockout! Williams needs to cheat to win his fights. Martinez beat the crap out of Williams, Williams needed his personal judges to bail him out. Cintron was on his way to knocking out Williams, Goosen did not allow that fight to continue and Williams refuses a rematch. Margarito beat Williams into a bloody mess! Again, Williams' personal judges bailed him out. No rematch. Then glass chinned Quintana out boxed Williams, won decision, so Williams got an immediate rematch! Why did Williams get rematch, but other no rematch after being cheated?! Williams knows this.

 

Williams is better than Jacobs, i would favour him here.

 

Styles make fights. Williams has got nothing that would trouble Pirog, a huge middleweight, with power and skills. Williams would get beat badly.
Martinez on the other hand would prbly outbox Pirog, but who knows.
