Ya, Paul williams will take pavliks power just fine.. until he gets wore down and dropped in round 9.
This is a fair prediction. Although I think Paul's stamina is superior to Pavlik's or anyone Pavlik has fought (especially BHop). If KP don't get him out of there in 7 or 8, I don't see KP really having the stamina to "wear him down" at all. KP don't have the stamina to keep pressuring him for 11 rounds like Margarito did. KP's best bet is to make him trade early and often and catch him. If he's gonna get a KO, it will most likely be in Round 7 or 8 of a well-fought, hard-hitting fight. But KP better be careful. He will catch some blows on the way... I think people are forgetting that he is the only one of these two fighters who has ever been put on his ass...atsch
Brilliant first post. atsch Pavlik has show the same work rate PLUS having the heavier hands. PW will have to show me more than he did against Winky at middle to get me to change my opinion on that. Too many of PW's punches came as arm punch flurries against Winky's guard. It might work against someone that don't throw a lot back, sitting behind his pillowed gloved hands, but that ain't working against Pavlik.
Brilliant first post is right!:good Kid knows what he's talking about. Kelly's hands are heavier but he is extremely limited. If a fighter doesn't stand in there straight to be hit, Kelly sure ain't gonna find him. And with Kelly's simplistic style, his workrate will be the one to suffer, as he has shown absolutely NO ability to adjust in the ring. None. Keep dreaming, though. As long as Pav continues to fight the Rubio's of the world, his fans can hold onto the bull**** notion that he is some superpower. PW 8-4
Myth 1: Paul Williams isn't Bernard Hopkins. He doesn't run around the ring with his chin stitched to his chest. He can slip punches and has a decent guard, but he comes forward to be hit. Winky connected easily enough when he tried, especially with the jab; his defence is his offence, to some extent, as you spend so long protecting yourself you don't get a chance to fire back. A bigger, stronger guy like Pavlik won't be intimidated, and will fire through the storm. Stylistically, I think that's why Pavlik wins - two guys are going to be walking towards each-other, and the most important factor becomes who can push the other back. Given that Pavlik is stronger and has the better chin (whatever you think of his skillset), there's only one way this fight's going. Myth 2: Since the Hopkins loss, people seem to think Pavlik's incapable of hitting anyone with an ounce of defensive savvy. That's obviously not true; look at the Taylor fights. No-one's denying that his style is straightforward - call it one-dimensional if you want - but that doesn't change the fact that he has a stiff, fast jab which will find the vast majority of fighters, and he can tee off from there. Myth 3: PW's workrate isn't that much better than Pavlik's. Pavlik threw close to 100 punches a round in the Rubio fight, the Lockett fight, and the Miranda fight, and close to that in the JT fights. He is a high-intensity, high-volume, high-pressure fighter.
Right now I would pick Pavlik. I need to see Williams in there with a big puncher at 160 and if Williams passes the test I might change my pick.
Go over to the thread started by Relentless. See if you can get this **** to fly there. It won't here. We know Goosen wouldn't let Paul fight Kelly. It happened in spite of what Goosen tried to say later. Goosen = Palle. :deal
#1: A fighter doesn't have to be BHop to beat Pav. Paul physically has what it takes to outpoint Pav 7 of the 12 rounds. #2: Pav is extremely limited. Taylor doesn't have the heart, stamina, workrate, or anything else that PW has. And he doesn't punch any harder. Yet he was able to severely hurt Pav. Just couldn't finish him off. #3: Pav has a great workrate, but his limitations will keep him from being able to maintain it with a fighter like Williams. Williams will not be bothered by his opponents methods. His workrate will continue. Pav, on the other hand, will see his workrate deplete drastically against a fighter who has good lateral movement. Again, time will tell. The Pav fans will learn soon enough...:good
Would like to but Goosen pissed off Arum enough the last time around that HBO ain't gonna throw nearly enough money at this fight to make it happen as far as Arum is concerned. I guess I don't give Goosen enough credit for this brilliant strategy. Now he can claim to offer big money to Arum's other fighters since Arum won't deal with him. Goosen da man. Brilliant strategy to get Paul out of the tough fights. :thumbsup
pavlik is to strong, punches to hard, and will be 10 lbs heavier them pwilly on fight night. this would be an awsome fight though. pav by ko, end of 10. pwilly will be the first 160 lbs. to go more then 9 rounds with the man. as far as stamina, pwilly will find out that there is no rest in the ring when you got kelly in front of you.:thumbsup
