Tarver was and is considered overrated. Damn if you look at the average heighth of the ATG MW's you will find that Hopkins is historically HUGE.He could have gone to LHW years ago.And still he wont defend against another LHW.
Even though Tarver may have been considered overated etc, Hopkins was also considered old, over the hill and the underdog going into the fight. This is getting a lil of topic so im just going to leave it at that, we can respectively disagree :good i've said my piece, case closed.
The Tarver win was a good one IMO but everything i said about him is true.Coming off of 2 losses and being old of course most people didnt see him beating Tarver including myself. I just find it a bit ridiculous Hopkins entire career as whole is matched against Pavlik's last 2-3 fights as an indicator as to who would win now.You say he isnt elite but how in the hell do you really know what the future holds.Hopkins already had 2 losses and a draw at the same stage where Kelly is at undefeated now.How do you know how his career will go from here? What he if he unifies and defends the titles for the next 5 years and ends up doing the same 1 weight class up?
I never said i knew what Pavlik was going to end up in the future i've already mentioned that im judging him on what i see today, stop trying to twist what im saying.
And that is the point i was making. You are taking Hopkins entire career accomplishments and pitting that against what Pavlik has done SO FAR and using that as an example as to who would win. I know styles make fights but he did outbox and crush the guy who most recently beat Hopkins. JT displayed no great Boxing skill in order to beat Hopkins.Just being a young strong hungry bull was enough to get the job done.Something Pavlik is.
Agree! Dude is doing something right! but....I also agree that he is very limited, and because of that, waiting to get served! Jermain Taylor has everything needed to beat Pavlik! I saw the last fight as a near draw, with Pavlik barely winning because of his 12th round performance..... The two things taylor lacks that is needed to beat pavlik are discipline and stamina.. Mind you, he was a lot more discipline in the last fight, but combine that with his still poor, but improved, conditioning and there is no way he can win.. I think Pavlik will be Beat soon! He is too one dimensional
Good post. I guess he cant be all that bad if he beats Taylor twice, and Taylor beat Hopkins twice. Now what Pavlic has going for him is that he is a young fresh fighter who works real hard and is in tremendous shape. He only recently became champion, so lets give him time. He will only get better and better. And those other guys are only getting older and older.
