Whats the prize for the winner of the tourney?

 

Well his dad was also giving the story about the bronchitis, i don't even remember the whole thing on it, to me it really dosent matter now. The bottomline is that he took a fight with a guy 10 pounds more then his normal weight, and who had a style that was an absolute nightmare for him and IMO no matter how healty or in shape he was he would always loose to B Hop. He went into the fight over confident and after it was over, it seems he didn't learn his lesson from all of it.

There is no shame in loosing to a fighter like hopkins, even people who beat him look bad, but Kelly seems like he is letting it ruin him.

 

No one from Team Pavlik said a word about the bronchitis until after Hauser's article came out. He also had a well documented elbow injury that cut out half his normal sparring and most of ther usual strength training. What great lesson was he suppose to learn? "I won't be a dumb ass and fight an all time great while sick and injured?" I think he got that one.

 

So he's not interested.

Because he know he'd be bashed up for real.:deal

Well thanks for clearing that up, didn't know the whole story behind the rumor of bronchitis. i take that back of Pavlik saying he was sick.

However Pav did say "It wasnt me in there", the truth is.............it was him, It's just his fighting style could not deal with Hopkins style. If he was sick (which im sure is a possibility) im sure it didn't help and probably made the outcome alot worse, but even healthy he would have had some real problems that night.

Pavlik comes off as bitter in the interview but nothing to get too worked up about. He can't be too happy about how his 2009 has turned out and 2010 now looks less promising then it did a couple weeks ago. His 2009 will consist of fights against Rubio(not on HBO) and probably a Mora level fighter, and probably not on HBO again. He just got left out of a very big tournament that he was a natural for. Taylor's in and Pavlik beat him twice and Abraham is in when Pavlik was the champ and Abraham the contender. And he is running out of options for big payday fights. I'd think he isn't too thrilled at how things are unfolding at the moment.

A couple other points. First I think the HBO/Showtime remarks may have been some sucking up to HBO. He seems to have slid down the ladder with them and figured some kind words can't hurt. Second, even though he spit on Showtime, give them the right fight at the right price and they'd put Pavlik on tomorrow. Last, if Pavlik would simply get busy and fight the best guys still out there then all would be forgotten. One thing he did get right is that when the tournament is over the winner or even runner up could fight Pavlik in a big time match up. But Pavlik has got to do his part because the top guy or two from the tournament will have done theirs.

 

@Hermit: Perhaps I overread it, but what is your true opinion about the article? Do you really think it´s justified and ok what Kelly said and that you still are a (more or less" hardcore fan of Pavlik?

Just finished reading the comments. I think people are being a little hard on Kelly, yes he did mention the financial aspects of boxing, especially greed. Now lets not get surprised and amazed and shocked, MANY CURRENT names, titleholders and p4pers talk about money, flaunt money in our faces and negotiate endlessly about money and how much they are worth. I honestly think there is a rift between arum and team pavlik. I don't care if he signed a contract. I knew something was cooking right after the Mora announcement and how pavlik was wrongfully matched with Hopkins. This SMW tournament does not help also. If I were in Pavliks shoes, I probably would be pissed OR irritated myself. He is the recognized MW champion, but is getting matched up first with Mora NOW talks are with Maritnez(who I like very much). Anyway to keep a long story short, I agree with everyone about Pavliks comments and how ludicrous it sounded, but we should give kelly the benefit of the doubt, and to prove us fans wrong. Even though I think Arum has not managed Pavliks career wisely.

 

Only people i give Kelly a chance is against taylor, froch and AA

 

Jesus Christ, how much do you guys tax in the US?
2 million dollars and Pavlik will only make about 300000$ from it? WTF?
