I don't like it. Given how Kelly looked in his last fight, I think Top Rank is just being impatient and throwing Kelly into the deep end of the pool to see if they can get the cash flowing again. Kelly had alot of excitment in his career after Taylor and Top Rank never got to tap into that any where near what they expected too.
Froch don't want to be side-tracked by fighting Bute who has nothing real to offer. Following the Ward fight, Froch if successful will be at the top of the food chain. Bute needs to face ANY live body at the lower A level to prove himself. :yep
Nobody can go for Froch until the Super Six Finals are over. This is why it was so exciting to see Pavlik coming back entering 168, whole new world of matchups for the top players now. Bute has had trouble with finding good opposition because 6 of the top ten has constantly been tied in the tourny.
If you roll with Bob Arum, it's ****in' sink or swim. **** it, rust can be knocked off in the gym too with 6 months to work with. Bob can break out that check book and get the best sparring partners. Not that Top Rank would have any problem with that either though....lol.
Arum looks to maximize a fighters earning potential. Whether he thinks he is cashing out on Kelly or getting him into the mix is the question here. Arum does take a long term view that frustrates most people on this board. I think he is being accurate though. Kelly doesn't have to win this fight to remain relevant. He does have to be competitive though.
nah man, there are times where Fighters need those big fights to get up for. If he continues with a certain level of opposition, you just start going through the motions. This is actually a good move because Team Pavlik will have to raise their game & has something to look forward to.
I don't know if it will happen. Bute may see it as a risk while he's waiting for the super six winner or Hopkins however I would sightly favour Bute as II think Pavlik may be a bit washed up
****in' A right. It is seen all the damn time in boxing that fighters that are used to Headlines and PPV's and all that **** just don't get as up for the undercard/small shows anymore. Just the way it is. Pavlik can ****in' do this! Bute is damn good. Should Pavlik lose even, he's still in the mix if it's a good fight, and I have no doubt it would be good.
Bute's beaten the hell out of some mean monsters in Bika & Andrade, I don't know what Kelly's game plan is going to be because he's not going to be able to just walk Bute down. That's exactly what Bute would want him to try. If Kelly's timing is still off, or he goes through mental fatigue later in the fight from not performing at a high level for so long, he's toast.
That would be another great fight for the Fall. I'm just not gonna get excited until I see contracts signed and these two staring at each other at a press conference.
