Hopkins is also a favorite of mine, and it pisses me off when fools try to act like he beat some chump. The man fought a brilliant fight, and called it the best performance of his career. Now, where the **** is my list?
yeah about that list...:yep marquez moves up two weight classes and fights an atg and get raked over the coals and dominated but is called a warrior...pav does the same w/ the same results but catches **** for it :think
I think people have to first realise that he is an overrated fighter. You can talk about race all you want but the truth is he was hailed as something he wasn't. BHop is a great fighter but the way he schooled Pavlik proved that Pavlik has much to learn. Look at it this way, one of the reasons why Pavlik was rated so high was his wins over Taylor. But Froch and Abraham did the same thing and people still call Froch just a slugger. Those fighters were not escalated to great status after their wins but Pavlik was in the US media and hence lies the problem. Chris Arreola is having the same problem now so its not just white fighters. Its hyped fighters. A fight with Abraham was what was needed and the Pavlik camp idn't take it.
True but I don't see why this is that big of a deal. Hopkins is an ATG and Pavlik might not be a good SMW. Jury is still out on Pavlik.
Pavlik is so very unaesthetic. It's tempting to think he's overrated. A lot of guys do get counted out for being white but Pav isnt one.
Martinez beat the crap out of Williams. If Pavlik lands one right hand on Williams, Williams will be out cold. Good thing Williams had his judges to give him the fight.
Bull****.... Him being white is more of a help than a hinderance. Other than that, I think he is catching some slack, but is still a bit overrated. We will see. He will lose to PW or Martinez. No doubt.
I'm not so sure that there will be any quick fixes. Painting Williams across the floor would be a good start, but I don't see him regaining the status he had after Taylor II until several years of dominance at 160, or a big win at 168 (which is attainable but very, very difficult). How do you think KP would handle the extra eight pounds? He is a skinny bean by nature, after all.
i brought this up in one of ringmaster's threads...if you recall the lead up to the hopkins fight, in addition to all the talk about hopkins being stopped was talk of how kelly would adjust to the added weight. kelly would always respond by saying, "its no problem for me...it means i get to eat," or "hey, at least i get to eat pasta." i heard that more than a few times. if and when he moves up (god willing after a williams fight) i would like to see him kinda take a page out of bhop's book and get hooked up w/ a mackie shilstone type and become a true smw instead of just eating up from mw. i think mackie could really make a difference when he moves up.
