Thank you. Being cocky in the ring where another fighter is trying to kill you is different than being so outside of the ring. Duran was cocky in the ring, Ray Leonard was cocky also...
no doubt. some people just love to hate. i never understood why. So i thought i'd just give my point of view and see if that made sense. obviously i'm not alone.
You cant even make an observation about a fight in which you didnt have a favorite without the fan boys coming out and calling you a hater. This is what boxing has become.
You have to be kidding me. Pavlik let his hands do the talking once again. No **** talking before the fight, during, or even after he sent Taylor's limp body to the canvas. Boxing fans should be happy there's a new middleweight champion who's as humble and carries himself like Kelly Pavlik. Kelly got caught in the second and stated so in post fight interview giving Taylor respect. Facts: 1) Showed tremendous heart in surviving the 2nd. 2) Regardless of the scorecards, he outboxed him 3rd-6th. 3) Punished him in the 7th and FINISHED the job. Came in with a gameplan, had to alter that plan in the second to survive, and then jawed Taylor with right hands. Just enjoy that fight and result, it was unreal.
I think the problem is that there are too many posters taking credit from Pavlik all over these boards, so it just gets old. I know your a good poster. Its just that its getting old in general here in general.
i called you a hater because of your first post "What an idiot. He deserved to lose just for that display of idiocy" you didn't simply make an observation, you resorted to name calling to and saying Kelly deserved to lose for his idiocy. That is pretty clearly is hating. Now if you made the obesrvation that he dropped his hands and got tagged for it *like he did* that is an observation, but to continue on and say he is an idiot and deserved to lose. Well.... and although i like kelly i'm not a "fan boy" of his.
He is a boxer, being an egomaniac is part of the job. He was overconfident but put that in check from 3rd onwards.
That's the first time I have seen a post saying that Trinidad was cocky, and can you say in what way he was cocky?
I doubt when Pavlik did that, he expected to end up on the canvas. I think he was baiting Taylor, but it worked a bit too well! Think how different things would be today if Taylor had ended the fight then and there. This board would be full of "Pavlik is an overrated fraud" threads. Kelly deserves huge props for weathering that storm in the second round.
Which is something a lot of boxers do after they win. I'm not sure I'd call it cocky, so much as being very excited over winning.
